How do I link to a specific thread on this board?

Well...I assume the question is clear. I sometimes would like to give a link to a thread posted on Fodors, but when I try, it just links to the first page of the board, not to any thread.

Place your cursor on the thread title, right click your mouse button, and select copy shortcut.

Specifically, right click while your cursor is on the title in the RIGHT hand frame (where you read it), not on the title in the left hand frame (where the threads are simply listed).

After you "copy shortcut", you can "paste it" with Control-V or "edit, paste".

Alternatively, you can open ANY thread "in a new window" - - and then the URL will be in your address line of the new window.

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex,
It works from the left hand frame too. I just tried it today for another post.

Thanks. It works perfectly. I would never have thought of right clicking on the title...

Hmmm... well, right you are. It seems like it didn't at some point in the past.

<<I would never have thought of right clicking on the title...>>

A basic point about how your browser (or is it the internet) works... ANYtime you see text, underlined (typically in a different color), and passing your cursor over it causes it to change to the "finger" - - that means that there is an address (URL) linked to that text.

For the sake of specifics:

Fodors uses a Frameset design format for much of their website so many of you are correct to refer to the right frame as such. For this page there are three frames: one that goes horizontal across the top and includes the search feature, the left vertical which provides forum-change and thread listings, and the right vertical which shows the posts for each specific thread. Because fodors uses a white background for the entire page, it can be difficult to see the three frames to an untrained eye.

For Mac users, simply click on the thread title in the right frame, (in IE) click on the @ symbol immediately to the left of the new url (which will highlight the entire page address), press Command C to copy, then Command V to paste in any destination.

If you e-mail the thread to yourself, you'll get the link in an e-mail. This is the way I save threads. Then, I transfer the e-mailed message to a mailbox set up in my email program. By the way, before you e-mail the thread, you can change the title to make it easier for you to reference.
