How do I know what's on in Barcelona?
After an extensive search on the web (actually, I checked the El Pais web site and it's for subscribers only, so I gave up
), I turn to all knowledgeable Fodorites (Maribel in particular of course) for the best web sites which list what's on culture-wise (exhbitions, concerts etc.) in Barcelona.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Andre,
The obligatory subscription to El Pais is sooooo annoying. But I, the total and complete sucker, bit the bullet and signed up!
However, you can try these in Spanish:
www.guiadelocio.com
(now with pared down English version)
www.lavanguardia.es
(BCN newspaper-have to register to read everything, but it's free, so far, I think. I have its travel page bookmarked)
For concerts at the Gran Teatre Liceu and the Palau de la Musica:
www.liceubarcelona.com
www.palaumusica.org
For other stuff:
www.timeout.com/barcelona/index.html
http://barcelona.lanetro.com/
(for the young and perpetually hip)
Hope this helps!

Me again, Andre
Just remembered another music venue, the Auditori de Barcelona. Cayetano Veloso (sigh!) performed there 2 summers ago, and I see Dulce Pontes (love her too) scheduled for Oct. 30.
www.auditori.com
For art, also check the schedule at the Caixa Forum. 2 summers ago there was a terrific "Renoir to Picasso" special exhibit.
www.fundacio.lacaixa.es
or if that doesn't work, look here:

Hi Maribel,
"La Vanguardia" also charges
You can subscribe to get updates on some sections, but you must read them within the day (and only those sections). If you forget to do it ... you must pay ... It used to be quite good for finding out what's going on in Barcelona.
Avui, another catalan newspaper, has an interesting website, but only in catalan ...

Thanks, cova, for the update!
Since I had the Vanguardia travel page bookmarked long before the new system, I can still read it, at least. So much for Barcelona news. I'll have to learn a lot more catalan to read aviu.es! At least www.elmundo.es and www.elcorreodigital.com are still free!

Maribel
