Airport Rome to Florence first day would take about only 3 hours all told and there are car transfers too.

I'd go with Amalfi too over CT - bit less crowded and you can take boats to Capri or Ischia or Salerno (for Paestum), etc.

If not into hiking CT is just a bunch of terribly mobbed some towns.

Amalfi though for OP takes too long to get there and for a day or two not worth it - a day or two in CT is enough for most.
