Houston Get Together

We have seen the Boston GTG out there on the east coast, and the Hawaii GTG way way out there in the Pacific- now how about something in between? We are talking Houston-Space City. I know there are a few regulars on this forum that hail from Houston so how about a GTG at a local restaurant? Of course we would welcome all the regular characters. The wife would like to meet some of you and talk travel. Gloria- if you come I'll promise not to diss the Oriental. Guen - we have a Four Seasons here! Bob- we will try to have cashew chicken on the menu. I'm thinking of having a GTG at a Japanese or Chinese Dim Sum place. The Asian food in Houston is second only to SF and maybe NY. Ok Houston does not make it on anyone's top ten travel destinations in the US but it does have great shopping, low prices and good food. Timing - its best to do it in the fall where the temps are in the 70's.
Ok lets hear from y"all!!!!!

I'd love to attend if I'm in Houston at that time. Although I have lived out of the country for years, I hail from Houston and go back to see my family when I can (usually in the fall).

Keep us posted.

Greetings fornm The Woodlands. I'll be in Europe mid-August until mid-October. If you have your GTG outside those times, let me know!

I am going to keep aware of this one because though I am moving back to Spain on July 11th, I always hit Houston when I am home (hey Aunt Vicki!), and with my erratic travels, anything is possible.

I don't live in Houston but I have family there so I visit often. I went to the last Houston GTG, and I will make every effort to come to the next one.

Topping to keep it current. Probably by next week sometime I will be focusing on dates. need to know who is local and who is from out of town that might be coming and dates to avoid. I'm thinking mid September maybe early October- weath is really great and the airfares should be lower. Also will likely have it at a Japanese or a Chinese Dim Sum locale for lunch.

I'm relatively new to Fodors, but I'm in! If you want to go more Chinese or Vietnamese, Chinese Cafe (China Town West - Bellaire) is a family favorite, but a little small. Kim Son just opened a new place outside the Beltway that looks huge.

Good idea BillT! I'd be coming from Austin.

And pretty please - stay away from Longhorn football game days! My orange blood would never forgive me if I went to a GTG instead of a game! Hook 'em!

That really didn't come out right. Certainly don't "stay away" from game days. By all means, come to the games! In fact, if you're in town, we cook up a mighty fine tailgate party BBQ. Y'all are invited!

What I meant was please try to schedule the GTG on a weekend when there isn't a game.

That's better.

Lyn and Kopp:

I'm thinking of Dim Sum at Ocean Palace on Bellaire- it can handle larde groups.
Also, Kopp- I'm thinking of a Saturday lunch in the mid to late September or early October timeframe. But noting is firm as yet.

Kopp- what is the schedule for the Horns? Do you go to the away games or just the home games?

Here's the schedule:

http://www.college-football--tickets...s/schedule.htm

If we can avoid the weekend of 9/24, that would be best for me. But if that's what works for everyone else, I'll see what I can do.

I found the dim sum quality at Ocean Palace pretty mediocre. I think the new Kim Son or Fung's Kitchen may be better choices.
