Hotels In Venice

Hi all-
I was wondering if anyone had any views on the following Venice hotels? I know the list is long but any feedback would be great! We're a group of 4 avid European travelers who would like to visit Venice on a budget for 2 nights on our way to other cities in Italy.
La Locandiera
Hotel Canal and Walter
Antica Venezia First Class Inn
Hotel La Locanda di Orsaria
San Gallo
San Giogio
Thanks!

We stayed at the Canal and Walter in July 2002 and found it fine. Nice decor, cool AC, good breakfast. We liked the location, just across the bridge from the train station as it meant no hassel getting there. It's a bit of a walk from St Marks, but that's what you are in Venice for, to walk. It was on the grand canal, but just behind it was a nice quiet neighborhood. Last summer I stayed at the Hotel violino d'oro which is right near St Marks and I would stay at either of them again.

We had a wonderful hotel in Venice.
Best Western Montecarlo

We do not typically stay in a Best Western. We typically like Marriott type hotels. This was the best hotel we had in Europe at a very reasonable price.

We stayed at the Canal and Walter in Dec 2004. Its a very easy walk from the bus or train station and convenient to the vaporetto. Good breakfast and professional reception, too. The night receptionist was even kind enough to make hot chocolate for us one evening while we played cards in the TV room. For a budget traveler, I'd recommend it.

There were no reviews in Tripadvisor for the other hotels. Some of these reviews above don't look so great.

I just have to add something here. I stayed at the Best Western Monte Carlo in October and I could not wait to leave.

I have travelled a great deal in the last year and maybe I am spoiled by business hotels but this hotel was terrible. It may have been the room I was given but it was not very clean. I refused to walk on the dirty carpet without socks. Also, I had a great deal of trouble unlocking my door every time I tried.

I had a bathroom with a shower that was basically a small plastic basin in a corner with a shower curtain. Needless to say water was all over that floor when I was done.

One morning one of the towels that was put in the room by the maid was filthy. It looked like it had been used instead of toilet paper if you get what I mean. I then took it off the rack and placed it on the shelf or whatever it was, only to return to my room and find it hung up again. I then took it to the front desk and handed it to them. They basically had nothing to say.

Sorry, I am planning another trip to Venice in March and I would never stay there again.
