Dani,

My husband and I stayed in Madrid at the Carlos V near the Puerto del Sol in September 1997. It has a Best Western affiliation but I believe it is still managed by the family who has had it for many years. It was simple but very nice and our room had a lovely sun terrace. We would stay there again. The location is wonderful. Enjoy your trip. We loved Spain.

Dani, We also had a great experience with the Carlos V in Madrid: great location right off the Puerta del Sol, wonderful buffet breakfast in a beautiful dining room, simple but clean room. We chose an interior room that had no view...something to think about in Madrid and all over Spain. The Spainards are famous for late night partying, singing and clapping until dawn and if you are facing the street you will be enjoying the revelry with them! In Seville, we give rave reviews to the hotel Las Casas de la Juderia right in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. Very interesting and beautiful rooms in a great location but with lots of steps so if that is a concern make sure they have more accessible rooms than we had. Good Luck! Also, don't forget to consider the Spanish parador system for both lodging and certainly dining even if you don't stay in one...absolutely great value, beauty and well worth a detour if you are anywhere in the vicinity. Maria

We are returning to the Carlos V next week, our fourth visit there. Very convenient and inexpensive. We take a room facing the street even though the view across the way isn't the greatest. Service is great. Front desk is very helpful. We can't wait. Adios
