Hotels In Spain

Can you help me with tips on which hotels to stay in? We have two weeks in Spain, were planning to go to Barcelona and travel around Costa Brava, then to Seville and end up in Madrid. (We are flying into Barcelona and out of Madrid). We can only afford moderate hotels. Thanks for your help!

I just stayed at the Hotel Carlos V in Madrid. The location was great--between the Gran Via and Peurto del Sol and very close to the Plaza Mayor where my friend was staying in the Hotel Plaza Mayor. The Carlos V had small, but nice rooms and a beautiful breakfast room with a good breakfast included in the price. The Hotel Plaza Mayor had small, but very clean plain rooms with nice new bathrooms. The hotel does not serve breakfast. They both have websites.

There are a number of posts on this site regarding moderate hotels in Barcelona and Madrid that you may want to check for additional information, but one of the best sources is the Official Guide to Hotels in Spain (Guía Oficial de Hoteles) if you have access to a copy.

There are some 3, 4 & 5 star hotels that offer great internet rates (check Trip Advisor), or try contacting an incoming agent (in Spain) who has direct access to the hotels and can often come up with the best overall value.

A second for the Carlos V in Madrid - great location, sizable (if bland) rooms and an excellent breakfast room.

In Barcelona, the Continental is in a great location at the top end of the Ramblas, right next to Placa Catalunya. The rooms are basic and fine, with comfortable beds and face towels! (Not always the case in Europe)

Hi,

The hotels that I stayed in, and would recommend for those looking for mid-priced hotels:

In Madrid - High Tech Petit Palace Ducal, near Gran Via metro. Got a good price on www.hotelpronto.com

In Barcelona - Hostal Palacios. www.hostalpalacios.com - 2 blocks from Plaza Catalunya.

In Sevilla - Hotel Alcantara, in Santa Cruz district. www.innsofspain.com or www.hotelalcantara.net.
