hotels in Rome..help!
My wife and I are spending the first week of december in Rome and need hotel suggestions. We have some mobility issues and need a place that has an elevator and central to most sites or close to a subway/bus stop. Right now we are looking at the Mascagni and Cesari. Any experience with these hotels? Suggestions? Also thinking of seeing Montecassino. How best to get there from Rome? Thanks!

Rex, instead of being so critical please try to answer the question at hand. jj is at least trying to be honest about his questions.

jj - another hotel to consider is the Hotel Rex on via Torino. Good location, very nice hotel, should be OK with your limited mobility. It is 4 * and the rooms are very good sized and well equipped.

Funny that Rex criticizes but the hotel I recommend is also called Rex, but rest assured that the Hotel Rex is much nicer than the person Rex.

We really enjoyed the
del Senato on Piazza dellla Rotunda.
It overlooks the Pantheon.
If you want more info on it, type in the hotel name in the Text Search box, and it will bring up all reference to it.

As far as Montecassino.
can't help with getting there ,as we drove from the Naples area.
It is well worth the trip!
BUT, be advised.
If the weather is snowy or icy the road up to the abbezia could be even more hair-raising!!
it is 8km, of hairpin turns and switchbacks.
So, before you go , you may want to check the road conditions.
Have fun.
I bet rome is bellissima in december!

jj - We recently stayed in Cesari and enjoyed our stay. The best thing about it is the location - between the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. It does have an elevator. It's right off a very main road where we saw buses driving/stopping all the time. Breakfast, staff and rooms were fine. Our room was a little noisy - it looked like a building next door was doing some construction, but I hear Rome is noisy anyway.

They have an email address: [email protected] and a website: http://www.venere.it/roma/cesari

Enjoy your trip!

I actually DID answer the question - - with a re-itreration of the many positive things that have been said about the Cesari.

And to jj - - you bring a question back up to the top by adding ANYthing - - no matter how insignificant, and the message "thread" comes back up to the top - - just as this one has, every time someone adds a new message to it.

This is why you sometimes see a message with no content other than "to the top".
jj
I don't know how the prices compare, but I recently stayed at the Santa Chiara and liked it very much. Great location near the Pantheon, it has an elevator and other amenities like a great breakfast.
I don't know what your particular mobility issues are, but sometimes
taking subways is difficult for people who have trouble with stairs, and long walks through corridors. And the Rome metro's stops, relatively speaking, are fewer and farther between than other cities' systems.
I didn't use the buses while I was there, but you might want to check this website and find a hotel near a good bus route like the #64, or the #110 that is specially designed for visitors with a hop-on, hop-off system
www.atac.roma.it

for point-to-point transportation routing: http://infopoint.atac.roma.it/en
/wwwemap.cgi?place=Rome

Metro Map : www.welcomerome.it/busmetro
/mappa_metro.html
