Hotels in Prague & Vienna
I going to Prague and Vienna in 12 days. I have reservations at the Radisson SAS Alcron in Prague and the Inter-Continental in Vienna - are these good pickS? (they are offering decent rates), are they in good locations? Other suggestions? Thanks

Normally I stay in small three star hotels in much of Europe, but we have splurged a little and stayed twice in Vienna at the Konig von Ungarn (King of Hungary) Hotel. It is a four or five star small hotel just a block from the cathedral and next door to Mozart's house, a great location. It is small (maybe 45 or 50 rooms?) with lovely rooms and beautiful baths. Our room one time had a walk in closet that could have been used as a bedroom. They are beautifully furnished and loaded with traditional "character". The breakfast room is delightful and a very nice breakfast is served, and the staff will likely greet you by name by the second day. If you like big American style hotels, there is nothing wrong with the InterContinental, but if you want to branch out, I highly recommend the Konig von Ungarn. You can do a search and bring up their website with pictures, or I will try to find it for you and post back here. I would imagine the price would be similar to the InterContinental. We paid 2390 Austrian Schillings in August, about $162 US, with breakfast.
I'm not positive, but I think there are a couple newly renovated hotels near the Namesti Repulicky metro stop in Prague and the Radisson is one of them. I have never heard of the name "SAS Alcron" though, but if it is near that metro stop, it is a very good central location, you can't beat it, and I've heard several good comments about that hotel from folks who stayed there.

Chas, We were in Prague last week and did not stay at the Radisson, we chose the smaller Cloister Inn which was a great deal and more than comfortable for us and in a central location.

The SAS Radisson is located near the Narodni Museum. This is not a great central location, but the Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Mala Strana and Hradcany can be easily reached by the tram or metro. It would be a bit too much to walk, I would think.

Have a good trip.
