Hotels in Prague

I'd like anyone to give me a first-hand recommendation for a hotel in Prague and views as to how long I would need to see the city at a reasonable pace. Thanks!

We stayed with friends but be sure to see the Industrial Museum in Prague. The Bleriot XI is hanging overhead; two bugattis, a pre War Mercedes racer, a Curve-dash Olds, train cars, you name it...even a jar of contact lenses! They make you sign a waiver that if you take pics they are not for a book. Its terrific and not really well-known. Also, the food at the Ministry of Culture is reasonable and good. Stop by Moser to look at some really fine crystal, too.

We stayed at the Pension Unitas in June, 1998. They have a web-site where you can make reservations directly. Price is $35/night with breakfast, but bath is down the hall. It is near Charles Bridge and the Town Square. It was a former convent & prison and I believe Vaclav Hamel was held there at one time. They also have a hotel attached with ensuite bathrooms, but it is much more expensive.

We spent three days the last time we were there, which was good, but you could always do more. Depends on how long you dally at the sites. We love the churches, concerts and sitting and watching folks. The cafes are much cheaper than western Europe. You will also run into some street musicians that are enjoyable to listen to.
Check out the AVE site at avetravel.cz They have a very good listing for hotels/penzions in all price ranges--most have descriptions & some have pictures. We stayed at Penzion Balbin near the Muzeum Metro & Wenceslas Square. At least 3-4 days to see Prague & there are a number of good day trips from the city. The Charles Bridge at night is a must.

We spent 3 nights in Prague in 1993 and wished we could spend 5! We stayed in the Prague Penta, which belonged to Lufthansa and later sold to the Renaissance hotel chain. We payed only about US 110/double at he time (I would guess it has at least doubled since). The hotel is very well located on Celnici, with a metro station in the hotel proper. The hotel has everything you could ask for ... except character (it's a huge modern building).
Paulo

Hello John, at least three days I would say....we found the hotel Bethelem
Club very good, unexpensive, at least I thought it was for a 100 dollars everything included (good breakfast)
great location in the heart of the old town. A good standart restaurant next to it, and one of the best -restaurants - also in the same plaza.
It is a very old building , stone, but very well remodeled, with a lift, and rooms have all the conveniences: cable tv, very good bathroom, big windows, and a little entrance hall.
Only lacks "good decorator s taste" in its furnishing but they are immaculated clean an confortable. Phone 420 2 242 16872 and fax 420 2 242 18054.
One good piece of advise, ONLY use taxis from a reliable company such us
AAA 32 24 44. - The hotel will also call taxis that although will not wildly overcharge you they will overcharge.
Any way taxis fares are cheap. From that hotel you can walk to many places.
Lucky you, I thought Prague was charming and a fascinating city.
I am planing to go next year may be if you remember you can feed back your experiences , we were there during April 1998. Good Luck.

Hi John

We stayed at U Cerne Liska on The Old Town Square. In dollars it was c. $110 a night, and 3 star. I would recommed it wholeheartedly. The location was absolutely superb if you want to be in the hub of things. We got the booking through Ave Travel ([email protected]) who gave an exceptional service.
We stayed for 6 nights, but could have easily stayed longer. I would recommed at least five days to take things at a slow pace.
Have a wonderful time.

Kate
