Linda

Hi. Just got back from Prague. Didn't make it to the Palfy Palace or Kampa Park although I also so saw the recommendation.
I would recommend that you get the Prague Post, available from most newsagents in Prague when you arrive. They have a section called Night and Day which lists the best restaurants. They give a review of a few restaurants each week, and also a summary of past reviews. You can also access the Prague Post at http://www.praguepost.cz/
However, this is not quite as comprehensive as the paper copy.
After following the recommendations of the Prague Post while there, we visited the Ryn Thr (The Fish Market) . If you're a fish fan I would definitely recommend it, the service was impeccable, and we didn't need to book. For delicious Czech food, we visited the U Vladare. The Czech food was amazing (if you like cabbage and dumplings!) and extremely cheap. Both of these restaurants have Web Sites. If you write to me I can give you any further info.

Thanks

Kate

Hi Linda,

I've found my copy of the Food and Drink section of Night and Day in the Prague Post 12/5/99. The telephone number for Kampa Park is 57313493. You'll need to find the code for Prague as well as the international dialin code from your country. Although we didn't go to the Kampa Park, it does look lovely and is ideally located next to the Charles Bridge, with seats outside (although I wouldn't recommend this unless it is really warm as it does get rather chilly at night). The Prague Post gives the Kampa Park an 'excellent' rating and prices it in the expensive bracket.
The number for Palffy Palace is 57320570. This restaurant gets a 'very good' rating and also comes into the expensive bracket.
Give me a shout if you'd like any more info.

Kate

We had a marvelous birthday celebration at a restaurant, the English name of which is The Swan. Beautiful atmosphere, marvleous food, and if you hit it right instead of piano music - the pianist was first counter bassoon player in the Prague Philharmonic - there will be an opera singer. First rate and very reasonable. Have your hotel make resevations. Find out at the hotel what the taxi fare ought to be. Settle on the amount with the driver before you get in. You might have to try several drivers to find one who won't charge two to four times the rate the locals pay.
OOPS! a Senior moment. The music is not at the Swan. The Swan has only great food. You can get a small private room for your celebration. Outstanding. Ask at the hotel for the name of the restaurant with the music. It's right off Stanisclas Square. Two excellent recommendations.
