We're cruising from Venice in early June with our 3 teenage boys and we're spending a few days in London before. Any suggestions for hotel rooms for 5 in either city? Location and price are more important than stars.

do you mean 5 all in the same room? Good luck w/ that. even quads can be hard to find.

You might want to look into 2 bedroomed apartments.

I'm not saying that there aren't any hotel rooms in London with beds for 5 adults but I think you'll spend an awful lot of time looking for one...wasted time. Look for two rooms or otherwise you can get 5 bed rooms at hostels (some of which are very nice). This would be your best option as price is important to you.

If you should happen to find a hotel that does 5 beds check they are all adult size, a lot of 'family' rooms only have the extra beds as child size ones, probably not ok for teenage boys.

In June 2004, we stayed at the Holiday Inn London-Kensington with our then 6, 11, and 12 year olds. We had a quad room, and the hotel placed a twin-sized roll-away in the room to accommodate all five of us. We couldn't book this online; we had to call the hotel. The room was quite large, and we weren't overly cramped.

The hotel was nice and right across the street from the Gloucester Road tube station. I don't know if we just got lucky, or if allowing 5 to a room is standard practice, but I think its worth looking into.

Alternatively, you might want to check the price for a suite and see if they are less expensive than booking two rooms...

Have you thought about the logistics of 5 people sharing one bathroom ? I'd much rather stay somewhere really cheap & have 2 or 3 rooms. (Presumably you are not all sharing one cabin on the cruise ship ?) Also, since nobody else has mentioned it & assuming you are American, are you aware that European hotel rooms are mostly much smaller than US hotel rooms (apparently) ?

Thanks to all. There don't seem to be too many family suite-type places in Europe and the hotel websites won't even list any. Sounds like 2 rooms is the way to go but everything I pull up in Venice is $300+ per night per room!
I'll look at the London Holiday Inn Mindy thanks.

There are definitely rooms for less than $300 in Venice. When I was looking, I found many. Though I was concentrating on rooms for a single, I saw some for less than $300. I'll look at my list once I get at home and post some of the links.

In Venice, check out the Hotel Marin. We stayed there with my sister's family of 5 and they had a room that accommodated all of them. It's very reasonably priced. www.albergomarin.it

In Venice, you might try Hotel Messner, a family-run 2-star hotel that gets good reviews. A double plus a triple there should run around 300 to 320 euro.

They have a family room, which one website says accomodates 5, for around 140 pounds per night in June. However, we stayed in that room, and I only remember beds for four people. If the family room doesn't work for 5, you could book a triple and a double. Just be sure you get 3 beds in the triple for the boys; I think what they call a triple has a double bed + a twin bed.

And read the reviews on Tripadvisor. Most poeple, including us, like or even love this place---very friendly, with a B & B-type atmosphere. But those who want air conditioning and/or elevators hate it. If you are concerned about stairs, the family room is on the ground floor. The bathroom is separate, down the hall, but is private to this room---and a bit spartan. Still, in high-priced London, this place is a real find for a family.

Kevin, the manager, will tell you all you need to know about getting around on the bus that stops practically right in front of the door. And the neighborhood is nice.

Good---I hope you like it. Prepare you teenagers for some good-natured teasing and banter with Kevin. At breakfast, when our daughter asked for more hot chocolate "please", he launched into the Oliver Twist routine---"Moooorrre? You want mooorrrre?" fortunately, she is not shy and came right back with a clever response. Our girls were sorry when we had to book someplace else on our next London visit bbecause the Blades was full!

Its a bit of a pain in many London hotels getting family rooms.Alot of the top end hotels just don't cater that well for families. Try out www.londonvacationguide.com as it may well have the tips and booking portal to put you on the right track. Good luck.

Looks like you already booked in London. But, we have a teen and young adult in our family. After looking at many hotel options, we decided to go with 2 rooms at a B&B Hotel Vicarage in South Kensington - private bathroom in each room; taxes and breakfast included. Rate of GBP 102/each room/night. Understand that this hotel is in a good location.
