hotels in avignon
Hello everybody!

I was wondering if anyone has heard about Hotel de Blauvac in Avignon. I think I am going to spend about four days in the city. Does anyone know whether it is a good idea to be in Avignon during the International Theater Festival in July?
Also, can anyone suggest some good and cheap restaurants/cafes to go to there?

Thank you so much,
Valeria.

We stayed at Blauvac 4/2000. Nice hotel - nice rooms - tiny side street and hard as HECK to find. But only a couple blocks from the parking deck under the palace and the centre ville.

Can't remember any of the resturants except one run by a young Belgian - I think it was Chevalier or sopmething like that. Anyway - it was good food and they spoke English.

.<< Does anyone know whether it is a good idea to be in Avignon during the International Theater Festival in July?>>

If you love theatre, you'll love Avignon during the festival. If you can get a room in the city, be sure to try and get a room that's not overlooking the street.... there will be masses of people. If you prefer a bit more quiet, try to find a room in a hotel in Villeneuve lez Avignon, just across the river. And yes, Avignon is fun during the festival.

PB

I stayed there and like danb, I thought it was a liiiittle hard to find, but otherwise not bad. I liked the room we stayed in and the staff was pleasant.

Why would it be a bad idea to be there during the Theater Festival? We were there during the Medieval Festival + some big art show around town and it was so fun!

we were there in 2000 in July, stayed at Hotel Meridien, nice central location ($400/night), pricey, across from Pope's Palace. Tried to get Hotel d'Europe, was booked.

Lots of theatre folks all around (theatre shows spoken in French, though). Live, free performances in square behind palace.

I have a reservation at the Hotel de Blauvac next month (counting the days...). In case you haven't seen it, here is their web site:

http://www.avignon-et-provence.com/hotels/blauvac/gb/index.html

There is a map and directions link at the bottom of the page. You can also search for the address on mappy.com for a more detailed map.

I'll be sure the report my experience with the hotel when I get back at the end of May
