I've stayed in Antwerp twice.
The first time was at Hotel Prinse. It would fit under your budget just fine at 120 euro for a double. Here's what I wrote on Virtual Tourist
-----
This is a modern hotel in a historic building -- the rooms are pretty bland, but clean and efficient and a few amenities are missing that one would expect at this price -- BUT it is very well run, a good breakfast [euro-style] and an easy walk to the historic center.
------------
The second time was at Hotel Antigone right on the river. It is much less expensive [85 euro] and the service isn't as good. Although the breakfast was. Again my VT review.
-------------
We stayed here for 3 nights. It is quite comfortable. We had a room under the eaves with a skylight. Breakfast was excellent and included. My only caveat is that housekeeping wasn't as thorough during our stay as I would have liked. [The room was spotless when we checked in]. I guess they figure we can live in our own mess!!!
The hotel had elegant furniture in the public spaces which were rather at odds with the straightforwardness of the rest of the place.
The location can't be beat though -- our room had a view of the river and it was an easy walk to all the major sights.
-------
Both are located equally well for walking to the various sights. We liked the location of Antigone because we discovered a number of small streets, interesting museums [The Butcher's Hall for example] and restaurants that we wouldn't have discovered otherwise.

Hi Vanenechy.
I stayed in Antwerp in October at the Astrid Park Plaza Hotel. Is this the hotel you mean? It's facing the Centraal Railway Station and right near the Zoo. It was a very good hotel with excellent rooms, however it wasn't particularly central (although it was situated right above the metro station and took 10 minutes to the centre). Room costs on-line are from around 80 Euros.

I live near Antwerp, so don't stay in hotels there. There is a Plaza Hotel; it's near the city park; not such a good location in my opinion. There is also a Crown Plaza (even worse) and the mentioned Astrid Park Plaza (also not such a nice location, near the station). The Villa Mozart, on the other hand, is right in the old town. If you get a good rate, I would go for that. I think it got some good reviews on this site (search for Villa Mozart).
Another possibility is the Hilton, which has one of the best locations in Antwerp, on the Groenplaats, next to the Cathedral. Their rates are usually reasonable. It's a Hilton, rooms are a bit boring, but it's in a good building, and the location is great.

Tulips, thank you so much for your valuable input. I was between the Villa Mozart and the Hilton and you are 100% right! After viewing some pics of the Hilton rooms I was real disappointed, they seem so dull and boring. The Villa Mozart rooms look to be a lot more personal and cozier. I will keep you posted.
Any suggestions for a romantic (B&B Style) or Historic inn in Brugges under $175 UDS?

I stayed at Villa Mozart for 5(or 6?)nights last year. As previous post, the location is most centred, the room was nice and clean, had very good rate from Best Western site.
But if you are a light sleeper, it would be better to ask for room not facing the Cathedral,as the bells ring all night.

Hello Vanenechy - We would also be interested in further replies as we are just about to book in Antwerp for August. We have been looking at the Golden Tulip Hotel Carlton. If anyone has information on this one would be appreciated. Will look at the Hilton and Villa Mozart.

I stayed at the Hilton when I was last there; it's nothing special, and is really rather bland. The room was a good size, and the position was excellent, and it's pretty cheap too so all in all you can't go too far wrong with it.
