Hotels around UCL in London?

My son and I are trying to get together a very last minute trip to London this weekend to check out housing in and around University College London for fall and graduate school. Everything seems to be booked that I have usually used but am wondering if anyone has a "gem" in or around Bloomsbury,Kensington,Earl's Court, etc. that they have stayed at that I might check.I am trying not to spend an outrageous amount as we won't be in the room that much each day. Thanks everyone!

Harlingford Hotel is a nice B&B.
The Academy is a very nice hotel, $$$, but I got a deal last visit via Expedia.

Kind of hard to help since no one knows your dates. Have you tried using the big London booking sites that let you plug in dates, and then check reviews on Tripadvisor?

Holiday City is a website that I sometimes have good luck with snagging last minute low rates and you can search by dates and neighborhood. Check their reviews against tripadvisor.

You might try Sanctuary House Hotel, but be aware that some reviewers mention that construction is going on nearby (or renovations in the hotel, I'm unclear which), but it's well-located and affordable as London hotels go.

A friend and I stayed in Kensington at the London Vicarage Hotel. I would definitely stay there again. It was nice and quiet at night, and I thought very reasonable rates (this was in November 2006).

We've stayed at the Crescent Hotel on Cartwright Crescent twice now and been pleased with the accommodations (clean, friendly, good breakfast).

I've stayed at the Morgan, which is several blocks away but in a great location in Bloomsbury (morganhotel.co.uk). Our twin room was £110/night. I've seen several small b&b-type hotels along Gower Street recommended - the Arosfa is one that comes to mind first, but there are lots in the area. Haven't stayed at those personally.

I also used londontown.com to get a good rate (£90) at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, near Russell Square. You might check that site as well.

I also stayed at Crescent, but few years back. That street, Cartwright Gardens, has quite a few B&Bs on it

As mentioned Cartwright Gardens is choca with hotels. Also have a look at Argyll Square in Kings Cross - loads of cheap and decent B&Bs.
