Hotel Trevi Rome

We've reservations at this hotel for early October. Can you tell me if it is located east or west of the Trevi Fountain? Its on Vicola del Babuccio, not on our maps. We'd like to be closer to Navona and Pantheon, but hotels are pretty full. Thanks much to anyone who remembers!

Hi Betty - I am actually looking for a hotel near the Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps on October 5th for one night and like you, am having difficulty finding rooms in our price range of $150 approx. What can you tell me about this hotel, price, accomodations, do they have a web site, how could I find out if they have availability? Help would be much appreciated! Ann

Hi Betty: Go to http://infopoint.atac.roma.it/
click-on the "English Map"
click-on the "Address Search"
type in Babuccio and the street no. of the hotel
click on "Zoom In", click on the map, click on the "Star" (hotel's location). Click on the map and star one more time.
Using my "Streetwise Rome" map I'd say the street is ~125M South of Trevi Fountain.
HTH and I thank Paulo who posts here for the website Regards, Walter

Ann: I phoned Hotel Trevi at
06 678 9563 and and made a reservation for a twin bedded room for L 340.000 about $183 a night, starting October 7. I had e-mailed and phoned 12 or 14 hotels in Rome trying to get closer to the Pantheon. One place told me there was an "event" in the area at that time, and they were fully booked. Give it a try; you may get in. A person on Fodors found it in Cheap Sleeps in Italy and liked it very much. It is just a short walk south of the Trevi Fountain Good luck. Betty

Welcome to the club, Walter! I was feeling kind of unconfortable being taken as an expert by people emailing me for opinions concerning their hotel locations
Paulo

Hello there
We, 3 couples, stayed at the Fontana Hotel, located on the square with the Fountain of Trevi. Our rooms overlooked the fountain--could have not been more lovely. Breakfast was included. The old city is quite small and walkable--enjoy!!

Bringing this question back to the top. Did a search on this hotel and would like to know if anyone is familiar with Hotel Trevi. I did locate the street thanks to Walters suggestion (great site). Other than that, is it a decent hotel, how far is the closest subway, any suggestions for good eats in the area. Is Campo de Fiori too far to walk. I want to know it all... thanks for your input!!

Mary, just play around with Walter's site a bit further. Instead of clicking on "Address Search", click on "Trip Planning". Enter "Babuccio" (from) and "de' Fiori" (to) and you'll get the best public transportation option (in this case, walking to via del Corso, taking bus #492, stepping down after 3 bus stops, on corso del Rinascimento, and then walking to the Campo de' Fiori. Including the the stroll and the average bus waiting time, the total time should read about 30 minutes. If you walk all the way, it should take you less than 20 minutes.
The closest subway station is on piazza Barberini ... unless you're going very far (e.g. to San Paulo Fuori le Mura basilica) though, I guess that you'll be using buses almost exclusively. You may take subways between sites (e.g., from the Colosseum to San Pietro, or to San Paolo) but very unlikely to/from the hotel.
Paulo

Mary: Dianne mentioned "small and walkable", if you look at a map the *direct* distance between Termini and St.Peters is ~2.8mi (~4.6km). The distances in Rome between sites isn't that far but crossing streets (traffic) and having to zigzag alittle on different streets going from A to B does add the time. If walkings not a problem for you I'd just break-in a pair of good walking shoes. I haven't used taxis much but I'm sure from any of the sites to your hotel would cost less than 10,000L (haven't checked the exchange rate in awhile but ~$5US). I took a taxi last Nov. from the Colosseum to Borghese Gallery and we went the long way around (I assume to avoid the traffic ~Termini) and it was just under 10,000L. HTH Regards, Walter
We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Trevi and walked almost everywhere except to the Vatican. To get there we walked to Via del Corsi about 5 minutes away and took Bus 92 to the end of the line and just followed the crowd. We enjoyed Trattoria Scavolino, at 72 Vicolo Scavolino, a short walk from the Trevi.
We got there about 7:30 pm and got the last table. We walked to Navona, the Forum, Campo di Fiori, Spanish Steps, etc. Didn't take the tube as the station were not convenient from Trevi. Mostly we ate lunches close to our destinations and then had our evening meals close to the hotel. The daytime walking was fine, but from the Trevi I'd have taken a cab if I wanted dinner at Campo di Fiori. The mileage isn't so great but the cobblestones and crowds in tour groups made it slow going. Betty
