It's in the 2nd arr., close to the Pompidou Center.<BR>Metro: Etienne-Marcel. Not the best area, but ok and quite convenient to get around.<BR>You can read some comments about this 1* budget place on<BR>www.paris.org<BR><BR>Click 'Hotels' the 'T' and you'll find it.

I don't know the hotel in particular, but rue Tiquetonne is just off the Rue de Montorgueil, which is a charming cobbled pedestrian street not far from les Halles. Lots of good local restaurants, and nice little shops. I'd say this would be a fun area to stay in, especially as it's popular with tourists and locals alike. Just avoid Les Halles shopping center on weekends (crowded and unpleasant) and the top end of rue St Denis at night (sleazy).

Has anyone stayed here recently? A friend from work stayed here for a week about 4 years ago and loved it - very Parisian curved iron bedheads was her first comment. They also had no problems walking back to the hotel at night. Any more recent comments on the hotel and the surrounding area would be appreciated.<BR><BR>Thanks.

I just booked a few nights in this hotel, the price apparently increased to Euro 50 a night, without breakfast. I phoned them directly and gave them my credit card number as security.

I need to ask the more experienced people here, what's the cheapest way to get there from CDG?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Why8 -- We've booked a hotel near the Tiquetonne for our October trip. I believe it's near the Chatelet Les Halles RER station. So take the RER from CDG for about 8 Euros and then walk to your hotel.

Go to mappy.com to get the pedestrian route...I think you'll find that the hotel is quite close to this station.

Maybe someone who has stayed at Tiquetonne will know for sure..

Have a great trip!

I've stayed there 3 times.

If you don't want to walk from Chatelet, get off at Gare du Nord and switch to line 4 on the Metro. Get off at the Etienne Marcel stop, which is very close to the hotel.

The Chatelet-Les Halles stop is confusing anyway -- probably better to switch to Metro at Gare du Nord. That's what I'd do, as my sense of direction is terrible.

I've recommended the hotel a few times on this forum. The rate has been 50 euros for at least a year, I think.

111op--
Why is it more confusing to get off at Chatelet where there's no switching than it is to switch to metro at Gare du Nord? Is it a long walk from Chatelet to the hotel?

I've been trying to figure this out on mappy.com, and the hotel seems to be really close to the RER...but I'm not sure if the directions I get are with the correct starting point --there seem to be a couple of metro stations as well with either &quot;Chatelet&quot; or &quot;Les Halles&quot; in the title.

Chatelet-Les Halles is a big underground complex where the Metro lines and the RER all converge.

You can take the RER there, but then you'll probably need to figure out which exit to use, and the walk to Tiquetonne will be longer than from Etienne Marcel.

That's what I think anyway -- that's why these days I switch at Gare du Nord. I find it easier.

Someone else can have a different opinion.

Enjoy the hotel!

Hi All,
I'm flying off tomorrow, can't wait!

TerriGoLightly: thanks for the tip on mappy.com. Here are two more great links for maps which I found: www.maporama.com and http://www.hot-maps.de/europe/france/paris/homede.html.

This website (http://www.subwaynavigator.com/subwa...set_subway.htm) recommends to make a change at Chatelet/Les Halles to Line 4, but I'm going to take 111op's advice to switch at Gare du Nord, doesn't sound so confusing.

@111op - Re: the price -- the info at the Eurocheapo website is not updated then, still listing the price as EURO42 for a double. (http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/list...tiquetonne.asp). So the correct price is now EURO50 for a double without breakfast.

Thanks you all, hopefully the hotel is a good choice!

Hi Why, I hope my Metro advice works out for you. As you probably know, your RER ticket will cover the switch to line 4. The hotel is literally a 2 minute walk from the Metro station (maybe even less).

Have a great time in Paris and I hope the hotel works out nicely for you (I like it a lot -- and especially at that price). Write back to let us know what you think of the hotel.

Why 8 --- How exciting...leaving tomorrow!

Thanks for posting the subway navigator link...it actually says that I should change at Gare du Nord as well to get to Reaumur-Sebastopol.

Please do post a report on Tiquetonne when you return...when will you get back?

Tiquetonne was actually my first choice but it was closed during the month of August when I was ready to book something...so I booked Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot d'Or -- I believe it's just around the corner.

I'm still thinking of switching to Tiquetonne so would love to hear what you have to say about it!

Have a great trip!

Oh one other thing...check out this link...it has various pics of shops, restaurants and such on Rue Tiquetonne (can you tell I'm getting psyched about our trip too, although it's not for another 2 weeks!)

111op -- My sense of direction is terrible, too...so I'm going to take your advice and switch at Gare du Nord as well. Don't want any extra confusion after a long flight!

Terri, I had the same problem with Tiquetonne one year (I think it was last year for Labor Day weekend?). I went to a different hotel that was (just) a little pricier and not as nice (for me).

Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot d'Or

I believe this is Tiquetonne's sister hotel. I think they asked me to try it when they were booked this July. I ended up using another hotel for one night and Tiquetonne for another. Bellevue is more expensive though, I think. (I don't know anything else about it.)

I don't want to paint an overly positive picture either -- r. St.-Denis has a bunch of sex shops. It's really not a problem for me, but some people find this a little seedy. r. Tiquetonne itself is actually quite nice. In my opinion the location is really fantastic. I prefer the Right Bank anyway.

But I guess Why8 has left already by this point, so we'll find out soon.

111op -- I have actually read about the &quot;issues&quot; with St. Denis, but, like you, am not overly concerned...gritty urban areas don't bother me and make a place seem &quot;more real&quot; if that makes any sense.

Hotel Bellevue et du Chariot d'Or is charging us 64 euros per night for a double with bath. Breakfast is an additional 5.25 euros.

The pictures I've seen of Hotel Tiquetonne remind me of the pension I stayed at when I did a college summer study program in Paris (15 years ago!), so I think that's what is attractive about it to me.

Both hotels get pretty high praise on trip advisor, so I'm sure we'll be fine in either of them.

I will be curious to see how Why8 enjoyed the area and the hotel.

Cheers,
Terri

I can't recall now if Tiquetonne has a curfew (if there's one, probably 3 am), but the front desk closes at midnight (I think). Again, the lack of a 24 hour front desk is not a problem for me -- as long as I can be out late.

The hotel does have an elevator.

The doubles, I think, are nicer than the singles. I had a single in July (though I had asked for a double). A little disappointed initally, but since it was only for one night (I was probably in my room for about three or four hours tops), it was fine (and it looked better after it was cleaned -- I had arrived early and had to drop my bag off and go right away).

I think that you'll be happy with the hotel (if you do change your resservations). But whatever your choice, please of course come back and let us know what you thought of your stay.

Tates - I've not stayed there yet (as you can see by my posts), but I'll be happy to give my assessement of the area when I return (at the end of October.)

My first thought would be, because of the age of your kids, how comfortable you would feel having them close to rue St. Denis...from what I've read so far, that street itself can get a little seedy (but a but farther north from the hotel, I think) with sex shops, prostitutes, etc...

My son stayed at the Tiquetonne in March and was perfectly happy there. He had planned on staying at the Monge, but upon seeing that hotel, he went straight to the Tiquetonne..he liked his room and the people that work there and the area.
(He arrived during our stay so he stayed at our apt in the 7th, but when we left, he went to the hotel. So he was able to look while there.)

The location of the Tiquetonne is no problem whatsoever in terms of prostitution IMO. That area isn't right around the hotel.

I just think the idea of a super-budget hotel being comfortable for large groups might be the problem. You can always get small rooms in Paris, but it can be more likely in really cheap hotels. If you want to get two double rooms, then it might be okay. I wouldn't stay in a hotel with no one at the desk all night (how does that security work, or for safety issues), but it doesn't bother others. If you have to be in by 3 am, but there is no one there after midnight , does that mean anyone can walk in?
