Well, if money is no object, then La Colombe d'Or would be hard to beat. Much favoured by visitors from the New World, as well as by the more affluent locals, this is one of France's grandest restaurants, with a few rooms too. Prices match its high reputation.

The Colombe D'Or is my favorite. They treat everyone equal(a king was there once when we were dining) Not sure if they are open in December, their website should tell you. but we have stayed three times and would go back again if there were not so many other areas to know better.

The Michelin Guide indicates that the Colombe d'Or will actually be open, surprisingly, between December 21st and January 9th. Le Saint-Paul will be open as well. A new hotel in the area, La Grande Bastide, will be open from Dec. 21st through January 14th. It appears that those hotels re-open for the Christmas holidays; so make your reservations ASAP.

If La Colombe d'Or is not open (it wasn't two years ago when I visited the area in December) I recommend the St. Paul. Lovely hotel in the charming village; Charming rooms, excellent restaurant, great service; good rates in December.
