Hotel Recs for Bern, Switzerland & Area to Stay

Any suggestions a moderate priced hotel in Bern? (Price around $200 or so). Will be there for 3-4 nights. Which area is best for a first time visit? Thanks

It's slightly above your budget (although you could check for specials), but we like the Bristol, an NH property. Excellent location, short walk from train station, comfortable rooms, nice staff.

Thanks! I will check them out -- a bit more for the room is fine. Some
of the hotels I looked at were $300-$400 range.

Have you considered an apartment? We always stay in apartments in Switzerland, saves a bundle.

Thanks -- that is likely what we will do as hotels are so pricey. Only there a couple nights so was thinking a hotel would be nice, but not at the prices I am finding.

What time of year? FYI - some hotels also have apartments, so another possibility. Or a B&B (or hotel garni) often less expensive than a full service hotel. Three star hotels are generally of very high quality, just fewer frills, and therefore less expensive.

It's been many moons since I last stayed in Bern, so can't help with specific hotels.

There ae all kinds of hotels and B&B in and around Bern, all linked by excellent public transport (tramways and buses every few minutes). If you plan to do day trips from Bern, you best stay close to the railway station.
May be you will have a look at www.booking.com.
