If I were to stay in the 7th I would stay at Hotel de Varenne. I haven't gotten a chance yet, but the hotel looks nicer since it was renovated. It seems reasonable to me for its amenities.

It depends on when you're going...but we went in October 2003 and stayed at the Champ de Mars hotel on rue Cler, and it was lovely. Reasonable (less than $100/night and very quaint). They do book up WAY in advance (I tried to get reservations for September in April and they were already booked for the number of people we had). So if you're going later, I'd contact them asap.

We enjoyed Hotel Relais Bosquet. Our room was quite nice and reasonably decent sized (for Paris). They have a website. The location was quite convenient, a short walk to Ecole Militaire Metro stop, cafes, Rue Cler, Eiffel Tower, etc.

There is of course, the Muguet. Squeaky clean, newly renovated, airconditioned, if you need it, and very reasonable. On 5 bus lines and equidistant from 2 Metro stops. Within walking distance of countless restaurants and rue Cler.

My Daughter and I enjoyed the Relais Bosquet. One of my memorable experiences in Paris was my daughter looking out of this window of the hotel and us seeing the full moon with the Effiel Tower in the background. It is easy as mentioned to find transportation from here to the rest of the city. Restaurants nearby.
A very helpful staff. Breakfast is extra at the hotel, but there is a pastry shop just below where I would go for pastries every morning with our tea or coffee. First time I had used one of those electric teapots in the room that water is hot in 1 minute. we came back to the states hunting one. Definitely found this hotel good in all ways.

Another vote for Hotel de Varenne. We stayed across and down the street at Palais du Bourbon last September. We didn't find them too friendly, so we went across the street to Hotel de Varenne and asked there for local info. They were very kind to help us. The lobby was lovely, the courtyard too. Just from the people and the little we saw of the hotel, I really want to stay there! Plus, the website photos and tripadvisor.com reviews look great. I'm trying to get there this year, but the airfare won't cooperate until November and I don't think I can get away then. Just the other day I found airfare for two all taxes and fees included for $922 round trip in November. I just need to go in August instead!
Oh, and you are closer to the Seine and Orsay on Rue du Bourgogne than at a hotel near the Rue Cler. But you are still very close to the Eiffel Tower too. We even easily walked over to the the 6th from our hotel. We really enjoyed the neighborhood.

Hi aussie,
Enter the address of the apt and the hotels at www.mappy.com.
Change "express" to "pedestrian".
You will get the walking distance.

Aussiedreamer. The Hotel des Londres on rue Augereau is right almost across the street from the entry to Chardonnay. I don't have it's exact address but that is the closest hotel I can think of to your apartment. Your apartment faces ave de la Bourdannais but you enter the building on St Dominique. If you have a map you can locate it. The hotel sits right behind Cafe Constant which faces St Dominique. I know they have a website but you will have to do a search for it.We have stayed in several ParisPerfect apartments and look forward to our stay in October in Champagne which is in the building right across from Chardonnay.
