Ok- I also called the hotel.. NO one has heard of or is offering this special.. I emailed Travel and Leisure Mag too! Ugh... anyway, at least I am booked now...

I'm confused about what you saw or heard regarding the special at Le Palais de La Meditterranee, because I just checked my copy of the magazine which says

that the cost for Le Palais de la Mediterrannee is: "From $300 double, for one night; $528 for 2 nights; and $720 for 3 nights through December," which includes: "welcome drinks at the bar; daily breakfast for two; and early arrival and late checkout."

Did you hear about a better special someplace else?

Hi again- no- that was the one I was referring to.

However, the phone number associated with that special is for Leading World Hotels... they have no such special in their "system"...

The hotel I contacted directly and they said no special such as described in the magazine was within their system.

And when I called Concorde Hotels which owns the hotel- they said they never heard of this special either.

Am I missing something?

Maybe you should try to call or send a fax to the editorial dept at Travel and Leisure?

Finally- figured this out.
I received an email from Concorde Hotels. They indicated that the special is one that they are running; not the hotel and not Leading World Hotels.

However, the special is for those preparing for or for coming back from a cruise- hence the word "Cruise" in the beginning for the sentence.. very unclear...

In any event- they are going to include breakfast for us now ... this helps even though it's much more expensive.. but I was going to stay regardless.

Feel so much better.. outside of my car rental details, that was the last "big" decision I had to make.

Just returned from Nice and Paris.... Stayed at the Palais de la Mediterranne and it was GREAT! Highly recommend it. I'm glad I did not stay with the original plan of going to Le Meridien... it looked kind of cheesy and others I met who stayed there felt the that hotel was run down too. Highly recommend the Palais.........

Thanks... I will probably not use my points for the Le Meridien either. Can you tell me more about the Palais - does it have a rooftop deck on top where you can have drinks, like Le Meridien does? How were the rooms?

The Palias was really classy and beautiful. Everything about the hotel was clean (spotless) and very high end. There was no rooftop bar. However, there is a terrace on the pool level which looked out upon the Promenade/water which I really liked alot. We had breakfast there.

The bathroom and toilet were in seperate rooms. The bathroom had both a seperate tub and seperate shower. The shower was kind of small, but it worked.... air conditioning worked well, water presssure good, etc.

The staff was REALLY helpful and nice, most of which spoke English well.

We had a balcony which overlooked the pool/restaurant terrace which was really nice. The only weird thing was the arhitecture of the front of the building limited it somewhat.

In Paris, we used our Hilton points and stayed a few short blocks from the Eiffel Tower. It was a decent hotel, large enough room/bathroom, good location, and the staff was great. It was very "basic" though, not overly charming.. we were only there for a 2 nights so it served our purpose well. We had a balcony which overlooked the Eiffel Tower... I knew it was close but did not realize it was that close!

Thanks so much for the info on Palais De La Mediterranee. My husband and I are booked to stay there in Oct. Since I've done all the research and made all decisions on hotels (acutally the whole trip), this makes me feel much better. Thanks again, dhl56

You will love it.. very nice hotel. Will you have a car while you are there? Also, I'll dig it out in a few days but we accidentally found the BEST small, family run, non touristy restaurant that we had ever been to.

Hi - have booked the Palais as well - would love to know name of small non-touristy restaurant. We have reservation one night in Eze - Chevre d'Or - so am looking for another but more local fare.

In Nice, try L'Indyiana ( I may be spelling it wrong). It's a few blocks from Old Nice in an industrial section. Excellent fusion food beautifully presented in a renovated space.

OR for a really special occasion, try La Chaumiere, 382 rue de L'Observatoire on the Grande Corniche. It's a Provencal-style restaurant serving excellent beef or chicken grilled in the main living room's fireplace along with wonderfully fresh vegetables from the restaurant/hotel's garden, as well as homemade dips and deserts. Really heavenly!

Hi, I promise I'll find that restaurant name asap.

We ate in Eze but opted out of the restaurant you mentioned because the menu was a bit more than I wanted to spend.

We did eat at Le Troubodour which was fantastic... great location, food was amazing,, still pricey but very, very worth it. Reservations are required and I had emailed them to make one. I really cannot say enough about it- may have been one of my best meals!

Also, we ate one night at Le Safari in Old Nice and it was also terrific. We met an older couple from Paris who was sitting next to us. She and her husband have an apt. in Nice and informed me that though it was packed and very central, it is known as a local favorite. It was excellent... but you HAVE to go to the small, family run place I found... I'll find it!

Kathryncee, have you found the name of that family run restaurant? I would love to have the name of it for our trip in July.
