Hotel Porto Castello (Santorini)?
Hello,
Does anyone have any experience (or familiarity) the above named beach front hotel, situated 2.5 km from Fira? I couldn't find reviews, but wanted to get some feedback before booking. It's radically less expensive than many other hotels in Fira and I'd like to know why!
Thanks.

It's cheap because of the location. this hotel is in Exo Gialos which is on Karterados Beach. It's on the far side of the island away from the caldera and is probably under the flight path of the airport runway. You'll have to take the bus everywhere or rent a car/scooter for convenience. If you stay in Fira or Firostephani you can walk to all the shopping and restaurants, but if it's a beach you're interested in for your stay, go to Kamari instead. There's much more going on there and the location is better.
Of course if you're after quiet and remote, I think you've found it.

It is not cheap it is quoting realistic prices, this is unusual as internet prices are usually twice the walk in rate. I paid 25 €/ night right in Thera town for a similar room. The catch is the rather isolated position about 3 Km from Thera, nowhere near a bus route necessitating hiring a car, the beaches on Thera are dire anyway so that is no advantage. Kamari beach resort is also very near the airport runway.

€25 a night? What's the name of the hotel? Anyway, I just talked to the people at Porto Castello and they said that it's not in a flight path. To be exact, she said that planes rarely pass over the hotel. The hotel has it's own free bus service but I don't care much about that since we'll be bringing our own car.

I finally went to that hotel last week. So here's my review.
It's about 5 to 10 minutes out of Fira by car and there's a beach about a 2 minute walk from the hotel. It's not very busy though but it's good if you don't have time to go anywhere else. Either way, Santorini doesn't have very nice beaches, but that's just my opinion. Now about the hotel. It's not as nice as it looks in the pictues but for 30 Euros a night it's okay. We were on the second floor and it had a TINY balcony. Plus there isn't an elavator so if you have a problem with stairs you should avoid going. The bed was uncomfortable too. I mean REALLY uncomfortable. The air conditioner stunk like pee for a minute or two when we turned it on and as for satellite TV, well, there was a TV but no satellite if you know what I mean. The cleaning ladies sucked too. I had made a complaint to the owners twice but there said that they were aware of the problem and plan on letting them go when the season is through. If you ever happen to get hungry there DON'T order the pizza which costs 7 Euros. I heard that someone did and it was that crappy frozen kind you can find at supermarkets. But I have something positive to say. The people that owned the hotel were very helpful. We had a bit of a problem and the dad, Mr. Antonis, really helped us out. He also brought me to the port and I had heard that he also picked some other people up from the port one day so maybe you can get in touch with them and ask them if they can pick you up as it costs 15 Euros to get to the hotel from the port by taxi. Oh, and planes DO fly over the area but I didn't find that too annoying.
That's about it. I hope this will help to anyone who's interested in going in the future.
