I stayed at the London Bridge Hotel, which was maybe more than inexpensive, but nice. The French restaurant there was great value for money.

I agree with Neville that the Travel Inn would be a good option. The closest one to Waterloo is the London County Hall TRavel Inn which is a five minute walk from Waterloo. It's not luxurious, but clean and comfortable and is about 65 pounds per night per room - a real bargain for London. Breakfast is not included, but there's a restaurant in the hotel. It's right on the Thames, next to the London Eye (which could be a pro or con, depending on your preferences.) Have a great trip.
