please offer advice on moderate priced hotel convenient for an overnight stay prior to an 8 AM flight out of Linate Airport. thanks.

You can get to Linate airpoort from the center of Milano (Piazza San Babila, subway red line, approx 200 meters from the Duomo) through the bus line 73. The first bus to Linate leaves at 6,08 and reaches the airport twenty minutes later, the next buses _to_the_airport_ are approximately every 15 minutes (ask the conductor if the bus actually reaches Linate, since not all the buses departing from San Babila do). Given this you might spend the night in any hotel in the center of Milano or nearby it and do not have to worry about getting up too early. For isntance if your hotel is Albergo Nuovo (right by the Duomo) yo might still get up at 5,30, leave the hotel at 6, be at the bus stop at 6,05 and catch the fist bius. In case you are delayed, you can catch the 6.23 bus and still ge to the airport one hour and ten minutes before your airplane's arrival.

Bear in mind that the first airporter bus from Milano Central Station to Linate leaves at 5:40 a.m. and arrives at Linate at 6:00 a.m. Buses leave every thirty minutes and fare is 4 Euros. So...... you can sleep at a hotel near the central train station if you wish. There are a couple of motor hotels closer to Linate.........

I forgot, more informations at http://www.atm-mi.it/eng/oraper/forari.htm, ticket to the airport on bus line 73 is one euro. Far better than the bus from Centrale station, isn't it?

Alice raises an excellent alternative to the airporter bus from Milano Centrale, particularly if you want to spend the last night in centrale Milano near the Duomo, although you would want to travel light if taking city bus no. 73 to Linate.

In case you are heavily loaded, the Taxi is a good alternative for reaching the Linate airport. Linate, unlike Malpensa and Orio al Serio, is actually IN Milano, a taxi ride to it would cost you more or less 15 euro.
