Hotel Leveque - Paris

My husband and I have booked 4 nights at the Grand Hotel Leveque in Paris for early September, has anyone stayed there recently? We have a rear room for 400 FF, but someone posted that the rooms in the rear are noisy. We don't need anything fancy - just clean and a good location. We would like to keep it under 700FF per night.

This is an often-praised hotel here, do a search here on the name and you will find the previous postings. Or look for comments on the hotels at
www.paris.org or
www.hotelboulevard.com
good luck

I think you will be happy with that hotel and location. I found it very quiet. We requested a room off the street (sounds like what you did) and heard nothing during the night (slept there 4 nights). I had read not to get a room on the street.

I think you will like the hotel. We stayed street side and never bothered us.

I stayed there in 1990 and thought part of the hotel's charm was its location on a bustling market street. Unfortunately, the street "comes alive" very early every day, as the various shops prepare to open (as I recall, there's a fish shop across the street), so there is a little noise with which to contend if your room overlooks the street. Nevertheless, it's a nice place with courteous service and a convenient location.

Sounds like this is a good match for your needs. The location on rue Cler can be a bit noisy in the early Am as the market vendors set up, but it is not as, say, bad as the street noise in madrid at all hours of the night! The place is clean, the staff very friendly, the location terific, and the price is right. Enjoy!

I stayed at the Leveque on the Rue Cler in Nov. 96. I had a room on the top floor and my room was not in the rear but actually overlooked the Rue Cler itself. The noise factor is not an issue..with only four day in Paris...you may not wish to sleep in. Actually the noise factor to worry about is from WITHIN the hotel.

As I said, I was there in Nov. 96. The hotel has added TV in the rooms and an elevator since then. But you can avoid the noise IF you request a room at the front of the building becaause there are fewer rooms at the front. You do not want to be near the staircase or the elevator because you will hear people coming and going. Second, ask for a room on the top floor, because the floor boards creak, and you will hear people walking about above you if you aren't at the top. While the Leveque was nice enough it had a few flaws - the beds were hard, the bathroom was tiny, and the room had only the bed and a desk chair.

On my next trip into Paris, I stayed at a charming hotel a block away, this one was called the Hotel Valadon. It is on Rue Valadon which is a side street off Rue Cler. Basically it is the exact same neighborhood, the same Metro Stop, and all the advantages of the Rue Cler neighborhood are right there. The rooms were bigger,a full size bathroom, TV, extra chairs to sit on and more space. As I recall the Valadon was only 100FF more a night...but that is only about 16 dollars more.

Michael
