Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth
Hi,
For those of you who have stayed here, could you please tell me whether you think the rooms are suitable for an older couple (in their 80s)? I'm primarily concerned about the bathrooms... whether the bathtub/shower unit would be usable by someone with a leg brace. Thanks for your help.

I can only tell you that when we stayed there we had a large bathroom with a tub and the shower was in the tub (as opposed to a separate stall you could walk into.) I don't know if having to climb in and out of the tub to take a shower would present a problem for the individual with the leg brace but I suspect it might.
I would suggest you call the hotel and discuss what alternatives may be avaialble. We found the staff to be extremely helpful both before and during our stay there. As you may know, it is a lovely hotel in agreat location. Good luck.

We took my parents to Vienna for a 50th wedding anniversary present and stayed at the KE and enjoyed it a great deal. At the time, my parents were both in their mid 70s. MaggieOB is right, check with the hotel about suitability for guests with a leg brace.
FWIW, there are many hotels that offer separate stall showers--examples, The Grand and the Sofitel. The Grand can be quite expensive and the Sofitel is short on charm (esp. in comparison to the KE), but if a tub/shower combination is too difficult, you will have to seek out hotels that have shower stalls. Le Meridien has them (although I don't care for their bathrooms) but it's a very modern hotel, again quite different from the KE.

This is probably the only situation for which I would not recommend the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth. We loved our stay there, but our bathroom had a tub/shower that would not be easy for an older person to enter and exit, especially wearing a leg brace. Plus, the combination of no shower curtain and a hand-held shower head causes water to be sprayed water all over the floor, creating a slippery surface that is relatively dangerous. Unless the KE has 'handicap-accessible' bathrooms, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. Good luck.
