I stayed here ~12yrs ago and thought it was a very nice and friendly 3* hotel but these are a lot more current reviews.

thanks for the link. Not available for the days we need it. Several hotels not available. I wonder if something is going on in September

This may go over your price but it fits your other criteria. Great location, very individualized rooms.

I suggest using www.booking.com or www.venere.com to find a hotel. You can choose hotels just in the town center, you'll only be shown hotels available on your dates, and you can rely on the guest ratings and reviews on these two sites, as only certified guests can post ratings and reviews.

We have found Venere to be excellent for finding hotels in Italy.

That said, we had a tough time finding a room in Verona in September 2011 because there was in fact a concert, some sort of pop singer, and the town and streets were packed. I think that looking during the week would have made it much easier.

You should find something nice at your price point if you are a bit flexible on dates.
