Hotel in Sorrento

A travel agent has suggested a stay at the Hotel Mignon in Sorrento. Any experience out there? I believe it's near the Piazzo Tasso, the main street in Sorrento.

It's on a little alley off the main drag, but doesn't have views because of location. Why did the travel agent suggest it? Price?

I'm not sure why she suggested it, I think price. I'll be talking with her soon.

It's a budget hotel. Is that what you want? Do you care about views?

I am looking at Sorrento for three or so days in May. I do care about views but I have to be somewhat concerned about price.
Do you think it is possible to have both there? We are thinking about $150-$200 for that portion.

Sher:

If you can manage a 10 minute walk from the center of town, I recommend Settimo Cielo (Seven Clouds). I believe they have a website and the most fabulous views of the Bay of Naples you can imagine.

Sher - I stay a bit out of town (just a few kilometers), up in the hills above Sorrento. They have a free shuttle into town.

Several years ago we stayed at a little hotel less than half a block from the main street corner.

The rooms were small, very clean and breakfast was good and included.

Luxury? No. Adequate? Yes.

Villa di Sorrento.

The room had a balcony in the front with somewhat of a view of the water.

Great location.

Well now I feel better about looking at hotels. I would rather take suggestions from all of you.
We were in the area a few years ago, but stayed in Priano and drove to Sorrento and spent a couple of hours on two different days.
This trip, we are hoping to spend about three nights just because of the beauty of the surrounding area.
Maybe being there in May will help a little with the crowds. Thanks

I had read some reports from fellow Fodorites about the HOTEL MIGNON and stayed there last fall. I loved the hotel. T he location was perfect, the room and bathroom were good, the breakfast was more than adequate and I loved the free computer that was available to all guests at all times.
The price was very reasonable and if the lack of a view is not important I can give a very strong recommendation to this hotel. The management was very pleasant and helpful.

May will be a bit touchy because the boats to Positano start some time in May. Check it out.

I second kybourbon's recommendation. Il Nido is a lovely hotel with great views of Mt Vesuvius and excellent food. The owner bends over backwards for his guests.

I've visited Sorrento twice and stayed up on the hill at the Hilton. I don't normally stay at Hiltons in Europe but this one has good rates often. The views are great from every room, the public spaces are nice, the walk to town is quick and the breakfast is excellent.
