Am I the only one who did not love Albergo del Senato? The location and view of the Pantheon were
nice but I thought the hotel was overrated. I'm planning a trip to Rome for September 2015 and have
been looking at hotel options. I've stayed in six different hotels over the past ten years and I can't say
that I absolutely loved any of them nor am I sure I would want to return to any of them. These include:
Westin Excelsior (only place I could use my points), nice but wouldn't pay the money to return
St. Regis- business trip, again nice but wouldn't pay to stay there
Daphne Inn- nice but prices have gone up dramatically
Hotel Ponte Sisto-nice and I got a great deal through Venere. Actually considering this one for my next trip
Albergo del Senato-room was very small, lighting was terrible.
Hotel Parlamento-it was fine but not sure I want to go back

I'm really not a very picky person and I don't mind paying more for a good hotel but I'm not sure what I will do.

we love going for a morning run so being near the Pincio (Borghese Gardens)is nice for us. we have stayed at the hassler, just a few minutes'walk and loved the location, the rooms; are going to the splendide royal next year. that is also very near the public tennis courts at the same park; still looks very pretty but less $$ than the hassler.
we walked everywhere but the coliseum.

LouisaH,

I totally understand what you're saying about Albergo Del Senato. The standard rooms are tiny, but for way less than The St. Regis, you can try to book The Seminario Suite ( take a look online) and feel like royalty. There's no view at all, but the room is very large, with a recently restored Renaissance fresco on the ceiling that you can stare at while you're lying in bed. The room is very quiet at night, and the hotel, as you know, has one of the best locations in Rome.

Also the Senior Suites and Jr. Suites give you more room, and most come with a small balcony overlooking The Pantheon.

WWK, thanks. Yes, I've been looking at the suites at Albergo del Senato and that's a possibility.

Thanks to ALL that have replied. I ended up booking Albergo del Senato by going directly to their website. There were no superior rooms available. Is it worth the extra $ for a suite or is a standard room OK? I did request a room on a high floor with Pantheon view. We will see if they honor our request.

WWK; I am also concerned about the rooms at Albergo de Senato re; quietness and size. The size is less important since we will only be sleeping in the room. Are the std rooms or suites facing the Pantheon peaceful at night? What floor would you suggest to have a quiet atmoshere?

2OnRway, my room faced the Pantheon and it was surprising quiet and peaceful at night and I am a very light sleeper and sensitive to noise. I do not remember what floor I was on, maybe the 3rd floor.

2OnRway,

You will hear a little bit of noise, but the hotel does have double-glazed windows. We all slept very well. The standard rooms are "you-can-barely-turn-around" tiny. BUT they all have decent beds, and more importantly, excellent AC.

You'll have to decide how important room size is to you. If it's a first visit to Rome, you probably won't be in your room that much. However, if you need more space and it's within budget, yes, go for a suite!
