I enjoyed Grand Hotel des Balcons in the 6th arr. on the Left Bank (May 1999). Paid bout $83 per night which included taxes and private bathroom (even had wash clothes). Good location, only a few minute walk to the Odeon Metro. Lively area near by, quite street in the evenings. 3, rue Casimir-Delavigne 75006, phone: 01-46-34-78-50. This is one hotel I would return to in the future! Email me directly for more information.

after many hours of searching in the forum, i came across the hotel des grandes ecoles, near the pantheon in the left bank area. i was in paris two weeks ago, and checked it out. it's exactly what i wanted. a quaint hotel , like a country in in the middle of paris. it's near the center of the left bank, behind the sorbonne a few blocks. modern baths, rooms are nicely decorated, but somewht simple. a beautiful garden. and only 530/590 francs for a single/double. do a search on it in the forums and check out all the nice comments. i booked it for my parents this october after seeing it.

If you looking for a hotel with a view - check le notre dame.

http://travel.epicurious.com/travel/...rope/1093.html

about a year ago we paid about ff750 for double - grat place - next to major metro, river boat rides, restaurant row 2 blocks away. 3 stops by metro you have eiffel tower. We walked to Louvre. They speak english and accept cards.

http://www.paris.org/paris-cgi/PDB/hotel.cgi?htl1894
If you want an inexpensive hotel that is very central(i.e. one minute walk from Notre Dame) in the Latin Quarter, try out:

Hotel des Argonauts
12 rue de la Huchette
Tel:33-1-43-54-09-82
Fax:33-1-44-07-18-84

We stayed their two weeks ago. It was clean and the staff was friendly. We had a room for two with a double bed and a full bath for 410FF. The only draw back is that it can be the sound from the restraunts can be irritating it you want to sleep before midnight.

When reserving a hotel check the address on Map quest for the exact loaction. Rue de la Huchette and the area south towards the Luxemburg Gardens are great.

In my opinion the best area in all of Paris: Inexpensive hotels, good restraunts and lots of sights nearby!!!
I would second Teri's recommendation of Grand Hotel Leveque. It's been several years since we were there, but I loved the picturesque market street it's on - a little noisy, given that the shops start opening at dawn, but close to Tour Eiffel and friendly staff. 29 rue Cler

I also stayed at Hotel Leveque in addition to Balcons this past May. I enjoyed rue Cler very much (GREAT pedestrian street full of shops and markets!), but prefer the 5th/6th arr. areas. The 7th arr. in my opinion, quiets down early whereas the other areas are quite active until late at night.

Hiya,

We'll be in Paris in September and just managed to get booked at Hotel Littre on the 6th - Look for this (in subject), it's only a few posts down - we found a lot of hotels had been booked up particularly in the 7th - which was where I really wanted to stay.

Good luck with it all.

I agree with Monica. The 7th arr around Rue Cler is a more residential area where many locals live, and it is a lot quieter at night than the 5th arr. I've stayed at and can highly recommend the Hotel Muguet. It was recently rennovated, air conditioned, the rooms and bathrooms are small but clean. You can check it out at www.hotelmuguet.com. Have fun in Paris, I think it's the most beautiful city in the world.

Hi, Aviva. We spent 3 nights in Paris this Spring. Stayed in one of Paris 'small charming' hotel named 'Hotel Lourve Forum at 1er. It was around S$140.00or USD70? at that time when V booked. Quiet, very friendly staff, great location [ just a few blocks from our favourite place - the Lourve ] & metros. Email me if U need the hotel's email address.
Happy planning.
We stayed at The Hotel Tourville in the 7th District on the Left Bank.It was just perfect and we have recommended it to Friends who have since stayed there and loved it. It is on a quiet street with all of the bars and places to eat on the corner. It is also close to the Rue Cler which is lovely. The Hotel is small and intimate with a quaint little lobby and very helpful staff that will do anything for you. They even let you check your E-Mail!! The rooms can be small if you don't want a large double but they are clean and lovely and have the best bathrooms. The location is ideal...near the Metro. The price is 790FF and up as I recall....I believe we paid 990FF for our room.We will return.Enjoy!

I've been to Paris a four times in the last two years. My favorite hotel was Hotel D'Louvre. Its a 4-star hotel located on the Rue de Rivoli, directly across from the Louvre. Beautiful rooms and a wonderful staff. Its a little pricey-$100USD per person per night, but worth it for at least one or two nights. We also stayed at the Prince de la Conti, located close to the Pont Neuf bridge and Ile St Louis.
Incredible rooms and the most helpful staff we met. Close to the Sorbonne, so the night life is quite active. We walked by a few jazz clubs and many excellent restaurants. I'm sure I can dig up further info if you want it.
Enjoy Paris!
