Hotel in Italy

I have never been to Rome. I want a nice clean 3 star holte downtown, within walking distance of most things. I hate to go sight unseen. Anyone have any recommendations?

Carole, the websites for hotels give a pretty accurate rating system and pictures of hotels. I have found that I am getting what I expect when booking that way. Do a search for Italy hotels on this forum and you will find plenty of websites. try www.venere.it

Hotel Genio. A block away from Navonna and an easy walk to the Vatican. Perfect central location; fairly elaborate continental breakfast. Three-star.

I suggest the hotel Julia. It has a web site, altho I don't remember the URL. It's halfway between Piazza Barberini and the Trevi fountain, and is very quiet.

I also recommend you go to the bookstore and look through the "Charming Hotels of Italy" book, or "Fodors" or "Eyewitness Guide to Rome," make a list of hotels in the area you want to be in, and then look them up on the web. There is so much information out there....you can usually find 3 or 4 references to a good hotel between the books and the web, and that, I think is pretty reliable.
