Hotel in Carcassonne?

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel Donjon inside the walls and liked it very much, also the restaurant associated with the hotel across the street.

You actually park outside the walls in a designated lot, send someone up to check in and they send a jitney down to pick up the luggage and other person. Then after dark they move your car into their garage in town (traffic is restricted during the day). It sounds complicated, but it's not.

We stayed at Domaine de Auriac and found it to give great value for price. While it's a Relais and Chateau property, it is less expensive than most of the others in that association. It's lovely and well worth the price. An easy drive to Carcassonne.

We stayed at the DonJon last June. You must park outside the walls, but contrary to the previous poster, our car was not moved. Our room was a triple and very nice, with a patio where we enjoyed a glass of wine while relaxing after our plane trip from London. (bought the wine at a small shop on our walk to the hotel) We had dinner in a small restaurant close by -- one of the few open in town. We ate outside and it was absolutely wonderful; 4 courses and wine for around $15 pp. After dinner we walked around town until midnight. We were the only people out and it was amazing. Have fun! ps: the only downside to the DonJon was the coffee at breakfast!
