Hotel in Barcelona before cruise?
My husband and I are arriving a couple of days early in Barcelona before our cruise. I would love advice about hotels to consider. Our cruise brochure lists Melia Barcelona and Tryp Apolo as possible add-on choices, but I noticed negative reviews elsewhere. I am looking for a "4 star" hotel in a good location. (Shops, restaurants nearby). Thanks!

Three years ago before a cruise, my husband and I stayed at the Hotel Duques de Bergara. It was very pleasant, clean, nice staff and reasonable. It was very close to shopping and restaurants and was a short walk to where you can get the double decker sight seeing bus. That is a great way to see the sights as you can get on and off at will and catch the next bus, all at the same fare. The hotel has a website, Http://www.hoteles-catalonia.es

You don't mention when you'll be arriving in Barcelona. Depending on the date and day of the week, I suggest you check out the Derby hotels in Barcelona. They often offer some excellent rates on weekends and during low season. The AC hotels in Barcelona also have some very nice rates for their 4 and 5-star hotels.

We are arriving sometime on a Saturday early AM after taking a red eye from Chicago. I'm not sure what Derby and AC hotels are, but I'll try to find out more on the internet. Thanks for your help, I'll look at Hotel Duques as well. Is the best way to get to the hotel from the airport by taxi?
