HOTEL HUNTING IN VENICE

I am travelling in May/06 to Venice with friends. Only there for 2 days. Have booked a hotel in the Cannaregio area close to train station and grand canal. But I'm hearing that I may want to stay in San Marco area. Should I be looking for a hotel close to that area?? Any thoughts?

I liked staying in the Cannaregio area. If you have a good deal on a nice hotel, I'd keep it.

Hi Bin,

Venice is a very small town.

If you are happy with your hotel and its location, don't bother.

Lots of people like the Cannaregio, I'd keep what you have arranged.

As above, Venice is small and easy to get around on foot and vaporetto.

It gets crowded around San Marco. You're better off in Cannaregio. And, as others have said, Venice is not that big a town.

We stayed in the Hotel Biasin in Cannaregio and had a lovely inexpensive room. It was not airconditioned, however. That was not a problem in April and may not be in May?? Do you know if your's is airconditioned. Didn't have any problem getting around on the "water busses" with a 24 hour ticket. The Water taxis are not the same thing... more expensive.

Check out the web site of Hotel Basilea. On a quiet side canal near the railway station. Friendly, clean, small, intimate, family owned & operated.
