Hotel for 1 night in Munich

We will be traveling to Germany/Bavaria in March and will be spending our last day/night in Munich, as we fly out of Munich. I've read lots of posts about Munich hotels, but I'm still not sure where to stay for that 1 night. We will be arriving in Munich from Oberstaufen in the early morning, so something not too far from the main train station would be good - however, I have read posts that say the street the station is on is not that great. We leave for the airport by train the next morning about 9. Would like something nice (price isn't overly important so long as it isn't a 5-star!)close to all of the sights. Does anyone have any feedback on the following hotels - Inter-City Hotel in the Main station, Europhaicher-Hof*** Hotel, Hotel Torbreau, Hotel Uhland, Hotel Forum, Munich City Hilton, Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Munich Marriott, Hotel Exquisit, Hotel Splendid?

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks!

Although I haven't stayed at this place yet (booked for next summer), I did do a walk-through last month at Hotel Kurpfalz, and I met the owner, a Herr Stefan Sevdas. It is a modest three star (or is it two-star), but I saw rooms which I thought were quite satisfactory, and mostly I feel like I can vouch for Herr Sevdas.
.
More by coincidence than anything (see my post under Venice - Hotel Bonvecchiati), this hotel also provides internet/e-mail access right in the lobby (in this case, free). This is nor a criteria for me to like a place, just turned out that way.
.
E-mail at [email protected]
.
or visit at
.
http://www.munich-service.de
http://www.munich-specials.de
http://www.munich-hotels.com
.
HOTEL KURPFALZ
Schwanthalerstraße 121
80339 Muenchen
Herr Sevdas Stefan
Fon ++49 89 540 98 60
Fax ++49 89 540 98 811
.
Best wishes,
.
Rex

We stayed at the Hotel Uhland for 5 nights in May. We liked it very much and plan to return next year. Excellent breakfasts and peaceful atmosphere.

We stayed at the Torbrau this last May. It is a beautiful hotel with very comfortable rooms, minibar, great food (breakfasts included) and a really kind staff that speaks great English and are always eager to help. It's a five minute walk down the street to Marienplatz.Prices were high though - we got a deluxe double bedded room for DM410. Have a great trip!

Hi Carolyn,
depending which day of the week you plan to be there I can highly recommend the Munich Marriott. It´s very easy to find and it`s near Schwabing, where all the good restaurants and bars are. To get to Marienplatz you can take the U-Bahn and it only takes ca. 10 minutes. The rooms are comfortable and they serve excellent breakfast. For your return to the airport the next morning there´s no better place to stay: it´s situated aside a road that leads you directly (5 min.) to the Autobahn to Franz-Josef-Strauss Airport. They have special weekend rates (double 180 DM).During the week it´s more expensive because it´s a very popular place for business people.

Have fun

Miriam

If it is your last night and you have an early flight, then I would splurge and stay in one of the biggies (Marriott, etc..) that would have reliable transportation to the Airport. Munich Airport is quite a distance from the city center.

I stayed at the Pension Seibel a block from the Viktualienmarkt in August. It was convenient to the pedestrian area and to the U-Bahn at Marienplatz. The rooms are decorated in Bavarian style, a double with bathroom was 159 DM with a generous breakfast. We took the U-Bahn from Marienplatz to the airport, trains come about every 10 minutes and it is a 45 minute ride. Here is the Pension Seibel's web address: www.seibel-hotels-munich.de

Carolyn,
We stayed at the Munich City Hilton in April. I recommend it highly if it is within your price range or have Hilton Honors points to spend. Advantages: Three subway stops from the Hauptbanhof and two from Marienplatz(center of most of the action if you are staying only one night). If walking, Marienplatz is a pleasant 10 minute stroll across the river. The subway(U-Bahn) stop is directly beneath the hotel (no need to even go outside). The rail line to the airport also stops beneath the hotel and whisks you there very inexpensively in a matter of 15 to 20 minutes. You can buy a 24 hour "partner" ticket" which is good for all transport in town, as well as covering the train to the airport. Breakfast is not included in the room rates. Rooms were lovely, with traditional furnsihings, mahogany wood trim and marble baths.
I have also stayed (on previous visits)in both the train station area and Schwabing. For a one night stay, the Munich City Hilton would be my choice,
A number of years ago my wife & I stayed at the Hotel Dietl. It is about 2 blocks from the main train station and we found it to be quite nice -- with a breakfast buffet as most hotels have. It was not expensive at that time.

Bob
