Hotel Familia, Paris

We will be in Paris in early September. We are thinking of staying at the Hotel Familia in the Latin Quarter. Anyone know this hotel?
PLease advise. Thank you, Bill

There have been previous postings on this hotel I believe; try using the
Search function on this forum to find it under its name. You can also try the web site www.paris.org which in its hotel section often has comments from past guests of the various hotels. Good luck.
I have posted in previous discussions regarding this hotel. My husband and I stayed there in May of this year and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is clean, the rooms had just recently been renovated. The bed was very comfortable (important since you will be exhausted) and the bathrooms were new. There was a shower mounted on the wall (a big plus in my book). Eric and his family go out of their way to assist you in any way. The area is wonderful, and the place was quiet, even though on a main drag. I would definitely stay there again, and have been recommending it to my friend. E-mail me direct if you have any other question.

I also took part in several of the earlier discussions of this hotel. We stayed there 2 years ago and loved it. We would definitely stay there again.

Our family stayed at Familia in May. We had a pleasant experience there. The hotel is wonderfully located, but I did find it a bit noisy. We had arranged to have breakfast at the hotel, but it bacame monotonous. There are several bakeries close by, so you might consider asking for a rate sans breakfast. Write me if you have other specific questions. Patsy Klontz

Hi Bill, we were the at the same time as Patsy. We liked the Familia. The location is great, in good walking distance to the Isle St Louis and Notre Dame. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated for a 2 star.Eric the manager is nice and he speaks good English. He is slightly excitable, but it is amusing. On the day we got there after the desk preliminaries,he crammed our luggage into the tiny elevator and then gently arranged me and my husband in there as well.He said, "yes it is small, but it is charming no?" Well we we could hardly breathe, but we agreed it was charming.
The walls between the rooms are a bit thin, but no one was really noisy. The clientele were all North Americans.
The breakfast room is very small and cramped and we didn't get much coffee, but I am greedy for coffee and 1 small cup might be enough for most people.
For the price and location the Familia is a good hotel.

Hi Pat! When you say you found it a bit noisy, was that noise from the street or from other rooms because the walls are thin? I am booked to stay there in September, so am anxious to be prepared for the worst (maybe it's not that bad!). Did you find any good, fairly reasonable restaurants in the area? Would appreciate any comments you might be able to give.

Yes, I'd like to stay there but since it doesn't have A/C and my stay is in Aug. I cannot consider it, nor any other place without it. Just do not want to take a chance. I know this eliminates quite a few hotels of charm!

For the person who needs air conditioning,I have seen good remarks about Hotel du Turenne, in the 7th arrondissement, that has air-conditioning, but is a two-star hotel with two- star prices. It might be worth checking out.

Hi Mark! I booked a double room at the Familia for 6 nights this September. I was offered a double room with shower at 510 FF per night including breakfast, or a nicer double room with shower & bath at 560 FF per night, also including breakfast. I don't know what the double room with balconies cost. Hope this helps.

Mark. Hi. We leave in two weeks for a stay in the Dordogne region, then three nights in Paris. I went ahead and booked at the Hotel Familia thanks to all that responded to my original query. Thank you all. My wife and I have a balcony room for 610.00 francs, including breakfast, etc. We are pleased, considering the "season" is still on. You might due better because of when you are going. Good luck. I will add my comments once we return.
All the best, Bill.
