Hotel Eiger in Wengen (not Murren)

Hello!

I am looking through apartments in Wengen and I see that the Hotel Eiger has an apartment on its top level. Can anyone tell me anything about the Hotel Eiger (not the one in Murren, the one in Wengen, just to be clear)? How is the location, accessibility? Cleanliness? Friendliness? Etc.?

Thanks!

Hi Suspire---can't help you with Wengen; I just wanted to say hello and ask how your trip plans are coming.

Enzian, hello! My trip plans are coming along well. We had sort of a lull while we waited until we were able to get our flights booked, and now with our flights booked we're all getting excited again. Planning a trip for myself is one thing, but as I'm planning for several people I'm much more anxious about getting things right! I need to remind myself that everyone who is going along (so far) is a roll-with-the-punches kind of person, so regardless of whether all is perfect, we'll have a good time.

How about you? Heading to CH anytime soon?

Soon? Next summer--not soon enough! We will be going late June-early July, a bit before you. We have our plane tickets and most of our reservations; just waiting to see how many other people are coming before I make the last 2 reservations, in Mürren and Kandersteg.

Don't worry about planning for other people. If they have never been to Switzerland before, they (and you ) will be so pleased with the lovely scenery, the quality of the accomodations, the wonderful food, the kind people, and the ease of gettin garound by train and cablecar---you can't help but have a great time there. Just make sure they understand that all this comes at some cost---but it is money well spent! And if you are booking apartments, like the one in Wengen, that is definitely the way to go.

Hi suspire,
We stayed at the Hotel Eiger in Wengen a few years ago and thought it was very good. Location is very convenient around the corner from the train station and the views from our room balcony were incredible! Enjoy!

No problem suspire! Just wanted to mention that I can't imagine anyone being disappointed staying in Wengen or at the Hotel Eiger. On our trip to Switzerland, which included St. Moritz, Zermatt, Luzern, Glacier Express and Appenzell, Wengen was the highpoint! Now I want to go back! Have a great time.

I don’t know the apartment itself, but I know the location of the Eiger and have eaten in the restaurant, which has very good food, and is known for their fondue. (In August it’s a bit out of season, but I am sure they will still be serving for tourists, esp if you get a cool or cold day, also try raclette.) The location is excellent, it is basically a few hundred yards from the train station. Many of the rooms would have fantastic mountain views, and I imagine the top floor apartment would have excellent ones. The hotel is a 1970’s build and has that look and feel, so its sort of kitschy at this point, it’s not Swiss wood charm, but perfectly fine and of course is clean (it’s Switzerland you can eat off the floors). Friendliness is a tough one IMO for Switzerland, the Swiss are very efficient and very polite and service is good, I don't know that I would call them overly friendly. The staff may also be from various parts of Europe anyway.

Wengen is my favourite town in that area and has some wonderful walks, including the fantastic Maennlichen to Kleine Schiedig which is very easy to do even for non-walkers. There are also shorter easy walks right in the town itself, the Wengen Tourist Office has info in English on walks from town. These are better in many ways than the Jungfrau train, because when you get up top, it’s often cloudy and you can’t get the views that you can get from Wengen itself.
