Hotel Eden Rome

I posted this at the end of another thread, but just want to make sure it's seen...

Hotel Eden gets horrible reviews on tripadvisor.com. Is it really that awful? Can anyone who has been there within the last year or so comment?

I probably shouldn't be replying to this thread since we stayed at The Eden three years ago, but I couldn't resist. It was one of the most overpriced, overrated hotels we've ever stayed in on any of our trips to Europe for business or otherwise.

Unless you have a completely free stay there, you can do much better at any number of really lovely, well-located hotels in Rome.

Well, we are definitely not getting our stay for free, but we are getting a half price discount, which brings the total to approximately the same for a regular room at Hotel Locarno and a junior suite at Albergo del Sanato--the other two hotels we're considering.

Anyone else? I am totally torn, especially because Albergo del Sanato sounds like a favorite of everyone on this site, but a few have actually liked Eden.

My wife and I stayed at the Eden two years ago and quite enjoyed it. The service was excellent. The room was very nice. The hotel is very quiet - but we rather like that. The bar/restaurant on the top floor has excellent views out over the city. We would stay there again.

We stayed at The Eden a few years ago so it may have changed. We found it very over-priced, not well located and not what we had expected in terms of luxury. Service was indifferent. We found the room to be rather musty and dingy. However the bathroom was huge and wonderful and the linens were exquisite (real linen).
