Hi Claire,

My husband and I stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago. I have mixed feeling about it. the location is fabulous. It is quiet, but very close to Rialto and San Marco. the hotel management was very nice. they did ask for money up front in Lira, which was a pain, but they got the money and all was fine. By now maybe they take credit cards. anyway we had a large room with a large bathroom. the room was very clean, but it was furnished in a very ordinary manner. Cheap furniture and linolium floors. It was inexpensive, but Venice deserves a better place if you can afford it. It was not bad, but I would not stay there again.

Here are two places that are not as convienently located, but nicer.
also they are not expensive.

Pension Guerrato tel. 041-5227131
Hotel Messner tel 041 5227443

Do a web search on these as it has been a couple of years since we have been back to Venice. My sister stayed at the Pension and she reports that it was filled with antique furniture and in an interesting area of Venice, near the outdoor food markets. the other hotel is near the Peggy Guggenhime (sp) museum. If you do stay at the Caneva it will be ok. You will have a wonderful time in Venice.
