Hotel California St-Germain

Has anyone stayed at this Paris Hotel? We have reservations at Royal St Michel but may change to St Germain.

I stayed there with a group of friends last summer for 5 days. The hotel was nice and centrally located. An easy walk to the Deux Magots, Notre Dame, Luxembourg Gardens. Also a laundromat close by and a good cafe next door. We also walked one day from the hotel, along the Tuileries and to the Arc d' Triumph (but I wouldn't recommend it). My only recommendation is to take a room on the courtyard side of the hotel. Rooms facing the street can be noisy if you keep your windows open.

Glad you asked this question, I'm going to Paris in three weeks and staying at the California-St. Germain so I'll be curious to see the other responses. It's my first time in Paris and I had no clue when I booked the hotel.

Just got back from Paris 1 week ago and was staying at the St. Germain. Found it was an excellent location in the Latin Qtr around the corner from Metro Maubert Mutualite. Even more convenient was the fact that the RER B line from the airports stops at St. Michel/Cluny--about 10 min away by walking. Plenty of unique shops exist between the hotel and Notre Dame (10min away) on the alleys that parallel the Seine.
The hotel itself was quite pleasant with helpful staff, tasteful decorations, and a "european" elevator (fits 3 people max)) to reach the 6 floors. While the walls are thin(we learned the tribulations of an argumentative Southern couple at 2am), the roooms are well done with baths or showers. Even though they do provide hairdryers, bring your own if you're hair is longer than the European gentleman's standard buzz!
Was nice to go across the way to the sister hotels to use the facilities like playing pool.
Overall, we would stay there again. Got a great rate on US Airways vacations with 6nite hotel and airfare from Orange County (CA) for $650 per person.
PS: Our streetside room 6 floors up had no troubles with noise from the street, but being that it was 40 outside, we hardly opened the windows.

Have only seen the St Germain from the lobby, but it looks just fine, a little more up to date look than some of the Left Bank hotels , it is in a great location, there are hundreds of restaurants of every kind all around, cinemas, shopping, galleries, you name it,it is there! We always take a cab to the hotel, they are sitting out side the arrivals and waiting, they are honest and nice, and get you there, which to me,at that hour of the morning after flying all night is just great BTW-my hair is past my shoulders and my husbands is to his collar, the hotels there always have sufficient hair drier power ~

P.S....most Paris hotels are noisy if the windows are open, that is just the way the city is~but you want to look for a hotel with less noise with the windows closed, ideally, double glazed windows are good, or a room on a courtyard or inner part of the hotel.
