Hi Laurie,
Yes, I just made a payment to her son Marco's Paypal account five minutes ago. I've never made a deposit like this before so I'm a little nervous. Hope it all goes okay. It looks like a great area to stay in.
We too are staying in the Valier apartment. It looks very nice. How did you get to the apartment: walk or vaporetto? Thank you again for your help with this.

Hi Michelle,
It sounds like you are wrapping things up!
We walked from the train station, but we have been to Venice 5 times so we knew our way around. Have you been to Venice before?
The directions on the website are very good. If this is your first time to Venice, you should probably take the Vaporetto to the San Toma stop and walk from there.
Venice is tangle of streets and alley ways and it is very easy to get lost, which is kind of fun when you are not hauling your luggage.
We really enjoyed the Valier apartment. It is small but very nicely decorated and has everything you need. Be careful standing up in the bedroom, since the beams are low and it is easy to hit your head.
The little area outside is very pleasant to sit and enjoy your morning coffee or a late night glass of wine.
The cafe Ciak is just across a small bridge and is a good place for coffee or a snack.
My husband swears that the Mille Voglie gelato stand near the Frari church is the best gelato stand in Venice and he has tried many!
What time of year are you going?
Oh, something else you should know, there is a traghetto stand very nearby so you do not have to walk all the way to the Accademia bridge or take the Vaporetto to get across the canal.
The traghetto is like a little gondola that you pay some euro cents and they take you across the canal.
If I can be or further help, please ask.
Have a great time!
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
Thank you for the info. Especially about the gelato! and the traghetto stop. This is our first time to Venice. I'm very excited. I've been studying maps so I can become familiar with Venice before we get there.
We will take the vaporetto from the train station. I agree that dragging luggage and being lost is not a great way to start our trip to Venice. We can do that another day...or two!
We will be going the first week of October 2009 for a full week. I like the idea of having a private little area to sit outside that's just our own. Now that I know the area we're staying in I can study my guidebooks and maps a bit more.
Marco emailed me back to say he received the deposit so I guess everything is set...now the waiting begins.
Thank you again for your help,
Michele
