I have no idea where this hotel is. However, keep in mind that Prague hotels are very very expensive. Primarily, because they rip off tourists. They have a two tier pricing system. If you are a Czech citizen, they charge a low price/room. If you are a tourist, the price almost doubles--In the states, you would be arrested--However, this is legal in Prague. Now knowing that, check with a reputable travel service. The best source for this is a Eastern European travel agent such as Orbis that deals primarily in Poland. They can get you good rates in eastern European countries such as Prague hotels, such as the Atlantic(I believe) Great hotel-great location-great breakfast-and good rates. We did this last year and it worked out fine.Their web page is:www.orbis-usa.com
Maybe you should look into traveling through Poland. The prices are right, the hotel food is good, and you could'nt have a better time- and this coming from a guy whose name is Gino!!

MY WIFE AND I SPENT 2 WEEKS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC DURING AUG/97. 10 DAYS ON A BIKE TOUR IN SOUTHERN MORAVIA AND 4 DAYS IN PRAGUE. WE STAYED IN MALA STRANA OR THE LESSER TOWN AT THE HOTEL SAX. A VERY CHARMING SMALL HOTEL NEAR THE U.S EMBASSY. RATES WERE ABOUT $100 US IN PEAK SUMMER SO I IMAGINE IT WILL BECHEAPER IN MARCH. PRAGUE IS AN INCREDIBLY CULTURAL AND BEAUTIFUL CITY WITH GREAT RESTAURANTS, SIGHTS AND GENERALLY FRIENDLY PEOPLE. BEWARE OF THE TAXIS BECAUSE THE DRIVERS ARE CROOKS. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE SOME RECOMENDATIONS.

The hotel was recommended by a travel agent who is working with a rep in Prague (or so I am told). We are taking a group of students and have arranged for a guide to be available at an unbelievably reasonable rate ($86.00) a day?)..+ transportation from the airport. Total for a week is in the $1400 range including airfare (in March). Seems too good to be true..flight is from NY area on a Czech airline. Opinions...ideas? Thanks to you who answered...

The Hotel Axa is centrally located, clean, solid, and not fancy. It is within three minutes of the Municipal Building (Obecni dum), and about ten minutes walk from the Old Town Square. Location-wise, it's great. The Hotel Sax, mentioned in an earlier response, is very nice, in a charming location. I recommend it highly. It's a few minutes walk from the Charles Bridge, and there's a nice Greek restaurant, Faros, nearby. There's also a great little place across the street where you can buy beautiful antique cast-iron stoves. They're not something you can pack in your bag for the trip home, but they can ship. Back to the Axa - it's not fancy, but you won't do better for the combination of price and location. There's also a health club downstairs with a pool, gym, massages, etc.... Have a great time, and go with the Axa.

Helena, Thanks so much for your confirmation of basically what the travel agent said...location is much more important since we don't want to depend on public transportation any more than necessary. Will be with a group of architecture students studying the Old Town Square. The greek restaurant sounds wonderful; I am looking forward to the trip very much! Becky
