Hotel AVA - Athens

Has anyone stayed at this Hotel? Any thoughts? Also, we will be in Athens for 3 days and we have already done all of the 'touristy' things on previous trips. Any suggestions for something different?

Yes, I have stayed at the AVA. It is very nice, on a quiet street at the edge of Plaka. We particularly enjoyed having a suite, as many hotels in Athens have very small rooms.

What does it mean that you have done "all" the touristy things?

We've done the museums, the Parthenon, Syntagma Square, watched the changing of the guard, Monisteraki Square, walked the Plaka, travelled the Metro line... the kinds of things that the tour books recommend. We were just thinking it would be nice to do something else when we visit this time. If we've missed anything, that's what we are looking for and if there are any obscure little things, even better.

Have you been to Kerameikos? In the city, on Ermou it's a place sometimes missed but well worth checking out.

Also, about 35 mins by local bus is the easy trip to the Sanctuary of Elefsis (Eleusis). We enjoyed this trip immensley.

I am not familiar with that hotel. Try checking out the Psirri area and Kolonaki area. There are some nice shops and art galleries in the Kolonaki area. Both areas are walking distance. Have you taken the cable car up the hill? Also the area around the university may be interesting depending on your age. Lonely Planet has a walking tour of the Plaka that is very interesting and may include some parts of the area that you did not see. Like the little white houses just below the acropolis. Did you see Bennitoes bar in the Plaka? Have a drink in the Grande Bretange Hotel. Find out where the roving markets are on your day in Athens. Sorry about the spelling.
