Athens Omonia Grand Hotel Bad Area?

I heard this hotel is in a bad area? Any feedback would be most appreciated.

The area of Omonia Square is not better or worst than Times Squ. in NY, Leicester sq in London or les Halles in Paris...
Young multi ethnic vibrant crowd, where everything is available at any time ...

It's a convenient location for the subway, many retaurants(including some ethnic little gems),value shopping and 5 to 10 min walk from the Museum/Syntagma sq./ plaka and of course the Psiri area (many restaurants, bars to see and been seen )
The hotel is pleasant with excellent service and buffet breakfast.

Thanks for your reply. We are trying to decide between this and the NJV Athens Plaza. Rates at the Omonia are more reasonable...but some people on this board seem to think Omonia Square is not a good place to be.

Aloha from Space

I visited this summer Athens

Omonia is not a dangerous place
because the olympics games come in Athens we have more security

5 years ago perhaps it s a problem for tourist to visit Omonia not more.

Try to find a room at Grande Bretagne
it's better than NVJ

I have read a number of times that Omonia Square is not so good at night, 'everything is available at any time' pretty much sums up the reason.
Near Syntagma Square really is far more convenient.

I agree with KathyNZ. Better to stay in Syntagma rather than Omonoia. Omonoia doesn't look "Greek" at all. There's also a lot of trafficking going on in the evenings. (I would not walk alone there - even though security is pretty tight right now because of the upcoming Olympic Games next summer).
I live in Athens, so if I can help you some more, tell me.
