honk if you're going to germany next spring!
are you traveling to germany next may/june? we'll be there for three weeks and have all sorts of questions: l. rent a car or go by train? 2. our itinerary...does it give a good representation of the country? 3. etc.
fodorites have given much good info...many thanks.
please tell of your choices of travel and destination cities....and other good stuff.
i'm enjoying the planning. it's almost as much fun as the travel!

Here's the other post with proposed itinerary: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34896158
You could probably get an open jaw ticket (Fly into Frankfurt and out of Munich).
I would say definitely go by car. If you are planning on staying a week in 3 areas, consider renting an apartment in each area.
Garmish or Oberammergau would be one choice to base in the Bavaria area.

If you decide to fly home from Frankfurt, and have a rental car, stay in Morfelden, it's a direct back road to the airport car rental return.
No need to get into heavy autobahn traffic in the early am.
