Great place for a honeymoon! I assume you are flying into Lisbon. I stay at the Metropole hotel and either take a day trip or spend the night in Sintra. Its about a 30 minute train ride from Lisbon.

I have also heard Evora is nice and then there is the Algarve region - for beach time. Since you are going in the height of the season you may want to consider the Northern Coast instead though. You should definitely search the forums under Portugal for other ideas.

As far as resources go, I would recommend the following books: Karen Brown Guide for Portugal, Eyewitness Guide for Portugal and the Cadogen series has several books on Portugal for the various regions.

Evora is a very pleasant city with a great pousada in an old building on the principal square. There are several walled towns near there that are interesting and which also have attractive pousadas, which are really nice to stay in. Obidos, just north of Lisbon is a pleasant walled city with another nice pousada but it probably would be jaamed in the summer. Near there is Batalha, a wonderful Manueline church. The algarve is really nice if you try to avoid the big sprawling hotels in the big tourist areas. The beaches are great and many have fantastic rock formations. I would imagine it is not too soon to start lining up the accomodations you would want to stay in. A previous person noted the north of the country, where I have not been. however it looks really rugged, with many old walled towns, which are probably not much visited. I definitely would recommend staying in the pousadas and I believe there is also another similar program where you can stay in historic properties, which don't seem that expensive

Kyle, Portugal is more diverse than you
may think---I have done it all and love
the place. However, you need to make a
basic decision---north or south!
The greater Lisbon area--to include Sintra and Obidos is a given. You throw in a day at Evora, and that leaves you
with 5 days to go to the Algarve for sun and surf, or to the Minho[north] area for native and quaint. Given 15 days you could do both. The south is the
obvious for a honeymoon. Contact me
directly if you need detail on where to
stay---and your budget will be key.
