Honeymoon Help
I need some experienced advice. I'm trying to finalize my honeymoon arrangements (July 2001) and am a bit torn. I would like some adventurous and romantic time combined with warm weather (80 degrees). I'm african american and would enjoy partaking in a little of that culture. Please let me know your hones thoughts.

P.S. Otherwise, it's off to the Caribbean.

Hindered Honeymoon

Lesli, you could try Greece. It will be very warm in July, but also very crowded. You may want to check out www.greektravel.com just to get some ideas and see if it appeals to you. We went sailing in Greece this past October on a yacht and I was thinking what a great idea for a honeymoon it would be (we didn't even know how to sail). In terms of African American culture, I don't know of any place in Europe that is brimming with African American culture, but then I am sure that someone will be more educated on this than I am. Perhaps you could try Turkey or Morocco, both very interesting destinations.

Hrmmm...Is it safe to assume, that you are looking for African culture, since the African-American Culture doesn't exsist outside of America? What you may actually find is a more Creole culture, like that of our New Orleans.

Over all, from what I've experienced, the average person European, seems to be more about where they were raised. For instance, what we would call an Arab-Italian from Rome, they themselves might call "Roman". That's where they were raised, they speak the language, and so technically they are Italian. Granted this comes from people that i have met while traveling to the Caribbean, Italy and France. Being "Black" or "African" seems to be a non-issue.

With that said, it's going to be very difficult to find places that contain an African culture, outside of those places that have large African populations. What places come to mind? The Caribbean, Paris, South America, those places where (and i hate to bring it up)slavery was a large part of history. Look at a region that was a major port for the Slave Trade, and where a European Country had taken up shop for a few hundred years, and you will find a rich African or Creole culture has flourished!

There is always the option to actually go to Africa and search out the many diverse and ancient traditions still remaining today. The Seychelles offer a multi-cultural and Tropical environment in the Indian Ocean. It may be ideal. Check out these sites: http://www.sey.net/ and http://www.seychelles-online.com.sc/

Hope this helps somewhat.
