The mind boggles as to how this sort of joke can happen. Buckingham Palace is meant to be the most secure place in the UK - a place which is an obvious terrorism target, and post 9/11 there have been numerous failures in Royal Security both at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. If Batman had a load of bombs strapped to his person, then many people could have been killed. Yes, the Queen was not in residence, however there are hundreds of civilians who work in the Palace each day, not to mention members of the public taking a guided tour.

Ok so the Met could have killed the guy if they thought he was a risk and apparently he wasn't. Why wasn't he? Because he was wearing a batman costume. So this just sends a message out to every terrorist wanting to attack a high profile target just to dress up as batman and they'll be sorted. Pathetic.

And then what happens yesterday? 5 protestors manage to get into the heart of the British Government without being contested. Ok so none of them were armed, but they could very well have been carrying biological weapons. And who chased after them? Armed police? Mi5 agents? Even regular police officers? Maybe security guards?

NO...men in tights.

This country is fast becoming the laughing stock of the world.

HM Government Office for Tourism should integrate these escapades into their marketing!

"Come visit London. See the Tower, Trafalgar Square, and the Zaniness of the Day™!"

Glyn-it is absolutely astonishing what these incidents have revealed about the U.K. security net surrounding its institutions post 9/11-the story is making headline news around the world. The fact that the group were let inside Parliament (first storming of Parliament since 1874) with the help of an insider with a security pass and a fake letter boggles the mind.

These incidents give a whole new dimension to the phrase "God Save the Queen!"

I agree. Completly crazy and hilarious if only it wasn't so serious. The only thing I think we should be thankful for is that these security breaches are being shown up now rather than by Al Quaeda themselves.

One thing which we still must bear in mind is that we have not had a mainland terrorist attack in this country since 9/11.

I suppose security will get tougher now but the British government has stated that the Palace of Westminster cannot be turned in to a fortress and that the public should still have as much access to it as possible.
