Holy intruder! Batman climbs over the Palace walls.

(If this has alrady been posted forgive my posting again)
I checked back 150 threads and didn't find mention of "Batman "having climbed the walls of Buckingham Palace today.
Here's a link to the story. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5989111/?GT1=5100

I just read this article. Truth can be stranger than fiction.

starspinners Sep 13th, 2004 01:46 PM

It is strange, isn't it?
What I'm wondering is this: how does one stealthy approach Buckingham Palace while carrying a ladder and dressed as Batman or Robin? Does one arrive on foot , casually strolling down The Mall, ladder slung over the shoulder, cape blowing in the breeze? Does one arrive via taxi which the cabbie pulls up to the curb and nonchalantly waits while Batman and Robin extract their ladder from the cab's boot? Does one haul the ladder and costumes on the Tube? :-D
Or did the Dynamic Duo change into costume after they breached the Palace walls? Hummm.. but that doesn't explain how they were able to remain unnoticed for the time it took them to don their masks and capes..and then, there's still that ladder that they were carting around.

How disappointing that Batman needed a ladder at all.

This is one of several security lapses at the Queen's residences. One of these lapses had a man confronting the queen in her bedchamber. If I was her I would be looking for a new security team

I can hardly stop laughing!! And the world thinks we are "nuts" in the San Francisco bay area. Too funny! Well maybe not to the Queen but understand she was not "at home".

Robespierre Sep 13th, 2004 02:47 PM

My guess is there'll be some changing of the guard pretty soon.

Travelnut Sep 13th, 2004 06:20 PM

Some of you guys should be writing dialogue for tv, so we can get something that's actually entertaining to watch.

cigalechanta Sep 13th, 2004 06:33 PM

atlcity, I was about to post that incident. I think the queen needs some reorganization.

TopMan Sep 13th, 2004 11:57 PM

I assume that would not be bankruptcy "reorganization" would it?

david_west Sep 14th, 2004 12:58 AM

It's believed there was a third man dressed as the invisible man.

dan_woodlief Sep 14th, 2004 04:55 AM

Yeah, the need for a ladder is a disappointment. What a super hero girly man. Spiderman would have never needed help getting up that wall.

david_west Sep 14th, 2004 04:58 AM

Spider man got to the top of Tower Bridge without a ladder.

It caused mayhem.

I can't think of another country where Batman would have been able to get that close without being shot. (which of course would have bounced of his bat breastplate)

TopMan Sep 14th, 2004 05:04 AM

I suspect SpiderMan wouldn't have BOTHERED since I doubt there is anything, or anyone inside Buck House that would be of interest.

Sue_xx_yy Sep 14th, 2004 05:12 AM

Gee, I wonder if this would work for getting into the Uffizi without a reservation....

Daisy54 Sep 14th, 2004 09:00 AM

I thought Spiderman climbed the London Eye - or did he do both the Eye and the Bridge? I wonder if there is a website devoted to superheroes in London - would be quite a hoot. I'll be looking for Catwoman or the Increidble Hulk next.

david_west Sep 15th, 2004 01:35 AM

Trust me on this - Wonderwoman is NEVER going to make an appearance!

KidsToLondon Sep 15th, 2004 10:57 AM

..."how did they get there?"--

Holy Congestion Charge! Batmobile Booted!

SB_Travlr Sep 15th, 2004 11:38 AM

This thread is cracking me up! LOL!

Of course, the picture in yesterday's paper of Batman standing on the ledge was also pretty eye-catching...

DH and I (both born in UK) decided it was a very Brit thing to do, and couldn't imagine it happening anywhere else. It's fun to ponder the planning meetings as they decide who will dress up as whom, and where they will go next. (Maybe an idea for a new Reality TV program?) The group certainly figured out how to get a TON of publicity for their cause.

One has to wonder what the Palace guards were doing during all this fun... Standing at attention in the guard boxes, eyes front??

I sent my daughter (currently in Scotland at the University of Stirling for the semester) this cartoon, which appeared today in the Dayton Daily News - - a "send-up" of the Batman story.

It was easier to cut and paste the cartoon to my geocities webpage than to have her register to see it on the newspaper's web site.

Best wishes,
