We are considering to book a room for 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Rome-West. Has anyone ever stayed here? If so what is your opinion of this hotel?

WE have booked the first two nights and last two nights of our trip there. Don't know a lot about it except what I have read.Anxious to read replies.

Looks like a double costs around 130-150 euro.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but why would you go all the way to Rome to stay in a Holiday Inn? I like HI just fine -- when I have to go to Atlanta, Birmingham, or Anytown USA. But when I go to Italy, I want to experience something genuinely Italian. Holiday Inn ain't it.

For that price range, you can stay in a nice, small hotel or pension in the heart of Rome. Such places are often family-run and have tons of character and charm, rather than the sterile, impersonal feel you get from places like Holiday Inn.

There are 204 rooms at that Holiday Inn. What kind of personal service do you think you'll get? At a small family-run place with 6 or 7 rooms you will actually get to know real Italians. About 1/2 the time when I stay in such places, I end up going to lunch or dinner with somebody from the family who then takes me to their favorite places in the city, places the locals hang out, not tourists.

If I find out you are actually staying in a Holiday Inn while visiting Rome, I will personally go there, track you down and take your gelato.

I'm not concerned that you've chosen a Holiday Inn. However, I AM concerned that the Holiday Inn Rome-West seems to be at the airport. They may have a shuttle to Rome, but I'd rather stay in the city center if I had two nights.

That's what I thought, at or neer the airport.

No, no Jennifer do not take away from your visit to Rome by staying at the Holiday Inn.

If you do while Edward is taking away your gelato I will be grabbing your wine glass, LOL.

Evenings in Rome, IMHO is a very special time. You want to be IN Rome.

So back to the drawing board for you!

I also suggest that you stay in a hotel in Rome.

The one you are considering is too far out of the city. You will be dependent on the shuttle or cabs to get back.

You can taxi from an in-town hotel to the airport for 45 E.

Thanks all for the info. My DH wins--they are paid for and have a/c. SO Edward--you have my permission to come and take his gelato--LoveItaly--hands off my wine-LOL !!!
I would LOVE the atmosphere of a local place better.And to hang out with them AWESOME I am sure.
